November 11th, 2007 aliraza · No Comments

A three hour protest was held today, the 10th of Nov, outside 10 Downing street against the imposition of Martial Law in Pakistan. According to various media reports, the demonstration was attended by more then a 1000 protesters. The demonstration was attended by students, professionals, human rights activists, media persons, as well as representatives of political parties. The protesters demanded an immediate end to the imposition of martial law in Pakistan and the military junta’s endemic interference in the country’s politics. They also called for the immediate restoration of the constitution of Pakistan and for the withdrawal of the recently promulgated and blatantly illegal PCO. They rejected and condemned the judges who have shamelessly take oath under the new PCO and called for the restoration of the Honorable Judges of the Supreme and High Courts who have refused to take oath and are currently being held under house arrest. They also called for the immediate lifting of the curbs placed on the media, the freeing of thousands of political prisoners, including in particular, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Aitizaz Ahsan as well as the 19 lawyers, trade unionists, and baloch nationalists who have been accused of treason and sedition. They also vowed that Pakistanis in the diaspora will continue to resist and hold regular demonstrations in solidarity with their brethren in Pakistan until genuine democracy is achieved in Pakistan.
