LAHORE (2007-11-13 15:16:36) :
PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto wants to build an alliance with other political leaders including PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, her party quoted her as saying on Tuesday.
“I would like to consult with all of them, including Nawaz Sharif,” Ms. Bhutto told reporters by telephone, according to a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) spokesman holed up with her under house arrest in Lahore.
“I want to build an alliance, a single point agenda for the restoration of democracy,” Ms. Bhutto said.
Ms. Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif were both prime minister twice between 1988 and 1999 and went into exile separately.
Despite being bitter rivals they teamed up in London to form a “charter of democracy” in May 2006, but split acrimoniously earlier this year when Ms. Bhutto held talks with Gen Musharraf for a power-sharing deal.
Ms. Bhutto was allowed to return home last month after Gen Musharraf quashed corruption charges against her, while Nawaz Sharif was unceremoniously deported in September when he tried to fly back to Pakistan.
