LAHORE: Students have to stand alert in these defining moments of Pakistan’s history to make sure that things go in the right direction. This was stated by PTI chief Imran Khan while addressing students at his residence.
He said common people had always faced suffering in the past due to dictators, and currently Ms Benazir Bhutto and Fazal ur Rehman were taking part in elections for their personal benefits as BB wanted removal of the alleged corruption cases filed against her in the past.
More…He said that students were out on roads and busy in protesting against the government for Rule of Law and the restoration of the deposed judges who did not buckle down infront of the dictator.
He said that Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry first time in the history of the country stood ‘firm’ for the Rule of Law and Constitution, and taking part in elections would be equal to stabbing the Chief Justice in the back.
Imran said that current judges could not ensure justice as they were the hands of establishment, saying contestestants for elections should not expect justice against the expected rigging as current judges could not give independent decisions. He said that masses would enjoy freedom under an independent judiciary and it was the only formula to ensure the Rule of Law.
He said that students were fighting for the Rule of Law, restoration of human rights and independent judiciary shoulder to shoulder with the human rights’ activists, political parties and the lawyers’ community.
Imran said that the students movement would bring a revolution in the country.
He said that illegal Chief Justice Mr Hameed Dogar would not be in position to deliver the independent decisions against the expected rigging in the coming elections.
He said that he did not form any student organisation from PTI platform because he did not want to promote the culture of weapons in the country.
He said that some persons of the establishment were busy in creating rifts and divisions amongst the students and therefore he would try to resolve the rift among the PU students, adding government wanted to distract us from our focus of removing the dictators but it would all remain futile as students would not fight with each other in the educational institutions.
He said that soon a pamphlet would be distributed amongst the students, adding about one week ahead of the elections an ‘Action Move’ would be announced by him and the students would stand up against the injustices of the government.
He informed the youth that they should be ready to sacrifice themselves after Dec. 25 to January 08, 2008. He said that Musharraf was trying to make himself into ‘Hosni Mubarak’ who has been ruling over Egypt for many decades by throwing public opinions into dustbin, adding however that soon Musharraf would have to face the movement emanating from the platform of youth. He said that he would also sacrifice in the movement along with the youth of the country, saying the case of terrorism by students could not detract them from their focus. Students from the city and from other districts attended the address of Imran at his residence and Imran at the end lauded the efforts of students
