Senior lawyer accuses police officials of torture

PESHAWAR: The PPPP leader and senior lawyer of Peshawar High Court Khurshid Ahmad advocate has accused the police officials of carrying out ‘illegal’ raid on his home and torturing him, saying that he has served them with a legal notice.

He was addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday. The PPPP’s candidate for NA-1 Ayub Shah was also present on the occasion.

Khurshid advocate alleged that SP Cantt Abdul Ghaffar Qaiserani and SP Gulbahar Waqas Ahmad along with about 60 police personnel raided his home at midnight of November 4 without serving him with any prior notice. He alleged that the police violated sanctity of his house.

He accused that he was picked up by police and was tortured so much that he could not walk without crutches, further adding that he was sent to jail where his condition further deteriorated.

He argued that the police officials from Punjab province did not know about the traditions of the Frontier province. “Why police officials from Punjab are being posted in NWFP,” he questioned.

He said that he had served both the police officials with legal notice of Rs100 million damages.

Khurshid Ahmad advocate on the occasion announced to withdraw his nomination papers from NA-1 so that he could spare more time for the movement launched by the lawyers of the country for freedom of judiciary. He said that he would start visits of the bar across the country to boost the lawyers’ movement.

He strongly criticised Attorney General Malik Qayum and said, “If I got an opportunity, I will spray black paint on the face of Malik Qayum as well like Ahmad Raza Kasuri”. - INP
