LAHORE: Pakistan will participate in a four-nation hockey tournament in China prior to the Beijing Olympics next year, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) general secretary Khalid Mehmood said on Sunday. “The tournament will help the national players to get prepared for the Olympics 2008,” he said. “Newly appointed manager-cum-chief coach Khawaja Zakauddin has requested the PHF to arrange for 20-25 international matches so that the players could have better international exposure. In this regard the federation has requested Germany, France and Belgium to play a series of matches against Pakistan and all the three respective federations have responded positively to the suggestion,” said Khalid, who was the captain of the 1972 World Cup winning team. Pakistan participated in several tournaments in 2007 but the green shirts failed to win any international event.
