The main suspects in Benazir Bhutto’s assassination are the Pakistani and foreign Islamist militants who regarded her as a heretic and an American stooge and had repeatedly threatened to kill her.
But fingers will also be pointed at Inter-Services Intelligence, the agency that has had close ties to the Islamists since the 1970s and has been used by successive Pakistani leaders to suppress political opposition.
Ms Bhutto narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in October, when a suicide bomber killed about 140 people at a rally in the port city of Karachi to welcome her back from eight years in exile.
One was Baitullah Mehsud, a top commander fighting the Pakistani army in the tribal region of South Waziristan. He has close ties to al-Qaeda and the Afghan Taleban.
The other was Haji Omar, the “amir” or leader of the Pakistani Taleban, who is also from South Waziristan and fought against the Soviets with the Mujahidin in Afghanistan.
After that attack Ms Bhutto revealed that she had received a letter signed by a person who claimed to be a friend of al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden threatening to slaughter her like a goat.
She accused Pakistani authorities of not providing her with sufficient security and hinted that they may have been complicit in the bomb attack. Asif Ali Zardari, her husband, directly accused the ISI of being involved in that attempt on her life.
Ms Bhutto stopped short of blaming the Government directly, saying that she had more to fear from unidentified members of a power structure that she described as allies of the “forces of militancy”.
Analysts say that President Musharraf himself is unlikely to have ordered her assassination, but that elements of the army and intelligence service would have stood to lose money and power if she had become Prime Minister.
The ISI, in particular, includes some Islamists who became radicalised while running the American-funded campaign against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan and remained fiercely opposed to Ms Bhutto on principle.
Saudi Arabia, which has strong influence in Pakistan, is also thought to frown on Ms Bhutto as being too secular and Westernised and to favour Nawaz Sharif, another former Prime Minister.
That month, two militant warlords based in the lawless northwestern areas of Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan, had threatened to kill her on her return.

At least now one should not suspect Musharraf’s intentions. Now people should be able to tell if Musharraf was a friend or a foe to the late Bhutto.
He put her under house arrest a month ago, as the lady tried to hold her rally in the same Liaquat Park.
The President and the government ministers kept saying it’s dangerous, but it was falling on deaf ears. Since death was calling her, she was behaving most erratically, almost like an alien. At least I was not finding normal whatever Bhutto was doing. I even remarked when she came that her death has brought her here. I am sure many other people must have said the same.

This is conspiracy to derail Pakistan. It is a great tragedy and those persons are responsible who are the direct beneficieries of this misdeed. She was a woman, and it is very cowardeous to kill a woman. May Allah bless her sole, aameen.

Could anyone clear how attempt on Benazir bhutto and at the same time firing on Nawaz Sharif’s car near Rawat are corelated,it seems very clear who did it and why and who would benefit from Dividing the contry .Killing of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif would benefit only few people in the world and help them to create panic and chaos in Pakistan and break the country as it was done in 1971,who KILLED LIAQAT ALI KHAN ,the same powers are doing it again today, think rationally and wake up nation
The people/country who woud get most benefit from the detah of Great Benazir is USA,they also hanged his father Zulfiqar A Bhutto via General Zia,as he openly tore the paper in UNO,and insulted, spoke harshly with Kissinger n USA,therefore USA ovverthrew his government n punished him for not obeying USA.USA wants to fail this islamic state n looks planned her death through Pig General Musharraf n militants

Yes, ofcourse majorkk, it is very evident. And look at the way government dealt with the reason for her assassination. It is childish. Benazir was a great leader of the nation, it must be the obligation of the goverment to investigate PROPERLY !!!

Musharraf must step dawn immidiatly before it is too late. The rouge elements, thugs, extremists
,ZIA remanents, sympathisers of Taliban,Al-Qaeeda, hardliner-hard core Wahabi/Salafi mercinaries and spy master mafias who have exorbitant influence in domestic politics have carried out such carnage. The army must now give safe passage to Musharraf because he is very unpopular to run the state affairs. The foundation of federation is in danger. Who would believe in Cheema’s comments? nobody.
The killers, though fulfilled their task , the state-Pakistan’s foundation is shakig.

What has happened has been very tragic and very horrific. Benazir Bhutto was a incredibly brave. kind hearted and etremely strong woman and will never be forgotten. However we should not forget to remember all the innocent people that are killed everyday in attacks of these sorts. Whoever has done all this will be brought to justice one day. No one gets away with their wrond deeds especially the murder of another human being. The truth will slowly be revealed and justice will be come. However until then, without Benazir, I am worried about the future of Pakistan and plead to everyone to stay together and help each other. This is another one of life’s tests and we can only pass it together.

In my very humble view, the way the ‘will’ story has emerged it seems that none of the blamed have killed BB, but it looks like that Mr Zardari himself has been involved in this conspiracy. With shady character in the past how could BB nominate Mr Zardari as her successor? She never had good relationship with her husband and Mr 10% was 90% responsible for her government toppled for corruption alligations. So why dont we think and investigate on these lines as Mr Zardari being the main culprit and murderer. If people party wins the election due the recent killing of Benazir, the road to PrimeMinister house will be clear for Mr Zardari and this is enough to consider him alleged murderer unless proved otherwise.
12 ashghar // Dec 31, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Mr. T Mirza, Zardari is not even participating in elections and so road to PM house is not clear for him. Makhdom amin fahim will be the PM if PPP wins. Zardari doesnt gain anything from Bhutto’s death. In fact, taking your argument, he should have kept Bhutto in place, because in her shadow he could get away with anything!
13 T Mirza // Dec 31, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Asghar Bhai, the road to Prime Ministers house for Mr Zardari is very clear. The way Pakistani politics work, when PPP wins the election, a byelection will be contested by Mr Zardari and straight to PM house and then 100% corruption. Asghar bhai why couldnt like most other educated and democratic parties a fair elections were held and a party leader must have been chosen. I think Mr Amin Fahim or Mr Aitezaz Ehsan deserved this position rather than Zardari or Billawal who is still in his education. I think we should take such decisions with our minds open and give prefernce to our country rather than deciding emotionally.

Henery Kissenger threatend Bhutto with dire consequences 30 years ago. While Bhutto was adament to make Pakistan a nuclear state. He was put into death. Shah Nawaz was poisoned and Murtaza Bhutto was killed ruthlessly-the killers are are roaming freely.
I believe the threat is still valid. US connection is the fresh carnage can’t be ruled out. BB was traped with long and tired negociations backed by the NEO-CONS. The cons have unleashed US jihad in Afghanistan with the help of Pakistani puppet generals,ISI and other mercinaries. It seems that a very strong appeal of Bhutto legacy is still a great threat to the US interests.
Democracy does’nt suit US interests. Judges still under house arrest does’nt serve their interest. The generals, ready to tear Pakistan into pieces-have offered their services to the US interest. They are following the script of Robart Kapalan.
So things would go ahead according the NEO-CON’S script. Generals would follow their masters. My fellows there are alot to come. Stay tune.
15 Sufi // Dec 31, 2007 at 9:22 pm
sorry guys! the house arrest of judges does serve the US interests. They would press the generls to create havoc on civil society and kill and kill and kill, plunder, plunder come what may.
Generals would surrender as they have offered for the last 60 years their humble services.
16 Sufi // Jan 2, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Pakistan is has been used and abused by the Generals with the help US for the last 60 years. It was used a base to counter the Soviet threat. Jihad was started at the behest of CIA and Regan administration. Thousands of mercenaries and terrorists were recruited from across the world to fight a proxy war against the Red Army.
CIA, the architect of the US jihad of Afghanistan trained Osama Bin Laden and other ruthless fighters with the help of ISI and blood thirsty Pakistani GENERLAS. MADRASSAS were set up to breed suicide bombers. The syllabus was also written by the State Department to brain wash the Jihadis. This game of blood lasts for almost a decade until the departure of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan. Soviet Empire vanished prematurely and the presence of a new enemy was a must to run the Capitalist economy. This time it was friends US jihadis who were labeled “TERRORISTS”. OBL became the world’s most wanted man. What a pathetic. The America people must understand.
Look at the post cold war and 9/11 era. World trade centre was blown up by the CIA with the help of the so called terrorists who were once freedom fighters-trained and funded by the CIA,ISI,Wahabi Saudi Arabia and other Western countries. Very bad!
Look at the current scenario my friends and the policies of the NEO-CONS. They have waged war on every front to control the resources of the war. They have not yet found WMD in Iraq. They killed their own friend Saddam Hussain, who fought for them for 30 years. Look at the fate of fanatic ZIA-UL-HAQ who fought US jihad in Afghanistan.
Pakistanis, though conservative, but not terrorists. It is the pocket of ISI,GENERALS who are usurping the precious resources of our country in the name of STATE SECURITY. Social sector in country presents the picture of the medieval era. All money goes to bloody generals and notorious spy masters. The US is on their back. How pathetic.
If someone raises the question whey the People of Pakistan doesn’t stop Musharraf not to do what is against of ethics and norms. I asked my friends from the US to stop Bush and the destructive policies-he has carried out on false and brutish line. Since the beginning of the Cold War era, the US administrations have over thrown out hundreds of operations abroad to topple the democratic governments. They toppled Sukarno, Bhutto and installed Suharto and Zia-ul-haq.
The US hand is red with bloods. Millions of the people around the world have suffered due to the US policies. Millions were killed ruthlessly by the CIA baked coups. Do I entitle all the US citizens bloody? No never.
The US is still active around the glob to create anarchy, fear and insecurity in order to create World Empire at the expense of human blood. They bombed Baghdad and Afghanistan millions perished. Why? Because to serve the US interests at the expense of human blood.
Pakistan is truly a fertile land for extremists and obscurantist and fanatics due to the policies of the NEO-CONS. Bush administration is still backing nakedly the blood thirsty and ruthless generals. Thousands of lawyers, civil activists and peace loving, secular and brave judges have been rounded up in the name of emergency. But the so called terrorists are roaming freely. Who to be blamed? The architect of this bloody game is NEO-CONS. The Bush administration, though raise the slogan of democracy, but never bother to press the blood thirsty GENERALS to transfer power to the true representatives of the country.
Truly Pakistan is a banana republic of the US. Generals and ruthless ISI its servant. OBL, Taliban, AL-Qaeda are the by product of US backing. Why?
Because it suits the US interests.
The US government is still silent on the judiciary. Our brave secular judges are still under house arrest and have kept in confinement. The bloody generals are reluctant to release. They fear that the status quo would be challenged. It was the Harvard School of Law who conferred on him the most prestigious title. But the generals are adamant to destroy the civil institution at the behest of Bush administration. Why? Because it suits US interests.
Our country is still in the clutches of US, Generals and ISI. People are the main looser-and are in pain and grieve. The people of the US are enjoying the fruits of democracy, liberty and freedom, but the people of Pakistan are in the pool of blood due to the US policies. Taliban, Al-Qaeeda, mercinaries and other blood thirsty elements are the product of US policies adopted through out 60 years history of Pakistan. Who are the fueling extremism, fanatism, redicalism and obscurantism? The US-crystal answer.
Who created Bin laden, Al-Qaeed and backed ruthless generals and notorious ISI? The US.
Who fuelled the culture JIHADISM in Pakistan? The US.
Who backed blood thirsty and fanatic ZIA-UL-HAQ and later sent straight to hell along with the US ambassador? The US.
Who conspired against PM Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto? The US.
Who supported, funded and trained mercenaries and Jihadis? The US.
Who who supports bloody Musharraf? The US.
Who carried the 9/11 carnage? The US and her ally Al-Qaeda
Who asked Musharraf to impose emergency? The US.
Who asked Musharraf to place the brave judges of Pakistan under house arrest? The US.
Who facilitate Benaziz Bhutto to join hands with Musharraf and later gave him green signal to assassinate her? Musharraf
Who is still facilitating Musharraf to destroy the civil society, institution and the integrity of Pakistan and punish our brave lawyers and judges? The US.
Now all my friends who have a negative opinion about Pakistan must look into the policies of the US-the bloody game at the expense of Pakistani people.
The people of Pakistan are still under the clutches of feudal system. The ISI and generals have besieged the country for the last 60 years. Sometimes they use religion as tool creates bloodshed and sometimes other tactics.
My friends in the US must understand the root cause and ground realities.
When I say US it doesn’t mean the people, but bunch and group who have vested interests.

Bitter truth
Anglo-American Ambitions behind the Assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the Destabilization of Pakistan
Larry Chin
Global Research
December 29, 2007
It has been known for months that the Bush-Cheney administration and its allies have been maneuvering to strengthen their political control over Pakistan, paving the way for the expansion and deepening of the “war on terrorism” across the region. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto does not change this agenda. In fact, it simplifies Bush-Cheney’s options.
Seeding chaos with a pretext
“Delivering democracy to the Muslim world” has been the Orwellian rhetoric used to mask Bush-Cheney’s application of pressure and force, its dramatic attempt at reshaping of the Pakistani government (into a joint Bhutto/Sharif-Musharraf) coalition, and backdoor plans for a military intervention. Various American destabilization plans, known for months by officials and analysts, proposed the toppling of Pakistan’s military.
The assassination of Bhutto appears to have been anticipated. There were even reports of “chatter” among US officials about the possible assassinations of either Pervez Musharraf or Benazir Bhutto, well before the actual attempts took place.
As succinctly summarized in Jeremy Page’s article, “Who Killed Benazir Bhutto? The Main Suspects”, the main suspects are
1) “Pakistani and foreign Islamist militants who saw her as a heretic and an American stooge”, and
2) the Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, a virtual branch of the CIA. Bhutto’s husband Asif Ali Zardari directly accused the ISI of being involved in the October attack.
The assassination of Bhutto has predictably been blamed on “Al-Qaeda”, without mention of fact that Al-Qaeda itself is an Anglo-American military-intelligence operation.
Page’s piece was one of the first to name the man who has now been tagged as the main suspect: Baitullah Mehsud, a purported Taliban militant fighting the Pakistani army out of Waziristan. Conflicting reports link Mehsud to “Al-Qaeda”, the Afghan Taliban, and Mullah Omar (also see here). Other analysis links him to the terrorist A.Q. Khan.
Mehsud’s profile, and the reporting of it, echoes the propaganda treatment of all post-9/11 “terrorists”. This in turn raises familiar questions about Anglo-American intelligence agency propaganda involvement. Is Mehsud connected to the ISI or the CIA? What did the ISI and the CIA know about Mehsud? More importantly, does Mehsud, or the manipulation of the propaganda surrounding him provide Bush-Cheney with a pretext for future aggression in the region?
Classic “war on terrorism” propaganda
While details on the Bhutto assassination continue to unfold, what is clear is that it was a political hit, along the lines of US agent Rafik Harriri in Lebanon. Like the highly suspicious Harriri hit, the Bhutto assassination has been depicted by corporate media as the martyring of a great messenger of western-style “democracy”. Meanwhile, the US government’s ruthless actions behind the scenes have received scant attention.
The December 28, 2007 New York Times coverage of the Bhutto assassination offers the perfect example of mainstream Orwellian media distortion that hides the truth about Bush/Cheney agenda behind blatant propaganda smoke. This piece echoes White House rhetoric proclaiming that Bush’s main objectives are to “bring democracy to the Muslim world” and “force out Islamist militants”.
In fact, the openly criminal Bush-Cheney administration has only supported and promoted the antithesis of democracy: chaos, fascism, and the installation of Anglo-American-friendly puppet regimes.
In fact, the central and consistent geostrategy of Bush-Cheney, and their elite counterparts around the world, is the continued imposition and expansion of the manufactured “war on terrorism”; the continuation of war across the Eurasian subcontinent, with events triggered by false flag operations and manufactured pretexts.
In fact, the main tools used in the “war on terrorism” remain Islamist militants, working on behalf of Anglo-American military intelligence agencies—among them, “Al-Qaeda”, and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, the ISI. Mehsud fits this the same profile.
Saving Bush-Cheney’s Pakistan In an amusing quote from the same New York Times piece, Wendy Chamberlain, former US ambassador to Pakistan (and a central figure behind multinational efforts to build a trans-Afghan pipeline, connected to 9/11), proudly states: “We are a player in the Pakistani political system”.
Not only has the US continued to be a “player”, but one of its top managers for decades.
Each successive Pakistani leader since the early 1990s—Bhutto, Sharif and Musharraf—have bowed to Western interests. The ISI is a virtual branch of the CIA.
While Musharraf has been, and remains, a strongman for Bush-Cheney, questions about his “reliability”, and control—both his regime’s control over the populace and growing popular unrest, and elite control over his regime—have driven Bush-Cheney attempts to force a clumsy (pro-US, Iraq-style) power-sharing government. As noted by Robert Scheer, Bush-Cheney has been playing “Russian roulette” with Musharraf, Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif—each of whom have been deeply corrupt, willing fronts for the US.
The return of both Bhutto and the other former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has merely been an attempt by the US to hedge its regional power bets.
What exactly were John Negroponte and Condoleeza Rice really setting up the past few months?
Who benefits from Bhutto’s murder? The “war on terrorism” geostrategy and propaganda milieu, the blueprint that has been used by elite interests since 9/11 to impose a continuing world war, is the clear beneficiary of the Bhutto assassination. Bush/Cheney and their equally complicit pro-war/pro-occupation counterparts in the Democratic Party enthusiastically support the routine use of “terror” pretexts to impose continued war policies.
True to form, fear, “terrorism”, “security” and military force, are once again, the focuses of Washington political rhetoric, and the around-the-clock media barrage.
The 2008 US presidential candidates and their elite campaign advisers, all but a few of whom enthusiastically support the “war on terrorism”, have taken turns pushing their respective versions of “we must stop the terrorists” rhetoric for brain-addled supporters. The candidates whose polls have slipped, led by 9/11 participant and opportunist Rudy Guiliani, and hawkish neoliberal Hillary Clinton, have already benefited from a new round of mass fear.
Musharraf benefits from the removal of a bitter rival, but now must find a way to re-establish order. Musharraf now has an ideal justification to crack down on “terrorists” and impose full martial law, with Bush-Cheney working from the shadows behind Musharraf—and continuing to manipulate or remove his apparatus, if Musharraf proves too unreliable or broken to suit Anglo-American plans.
The likely involvement of the ISI behind the Bhutto hit cannot be overstated. ISI’s role behind every major act of “terrorism” since 9/11 remains the central unspoken truth behind current geopolitical realities. Bhutto, but not Sharif or Musharraf would have threatened the ISI’s agendas.
Bhutto, militant Islam, and the pipelines Now that she has been martyred, many unflattering historical facts about Benazir Bhutto will be hidden or forgotten.
Bhutto herself was intimately involved in the creation of the very “terror” milieu purportedly responsible for her assassination. Across her political career, she supported militant Islamists, the Taliban, the ISI, and the ambitions of Western governments.
As noted by Michel Chossudovsky in America’s “War on Terrorism”, it was during Bhutto’s second term that Jamiat-ul-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and the Taliban rose to prominence, welcomed into Bhutto’s coalition government. It was at that point that ties between the JUI, the Army and the ISI were established.
While Bhutto’s relationship with both the ISI and the Taliban were marked by turmoil, it is clear that Bhutto, when in power, supported both—and enthusiastically supported Anglo-American interventions.
In his two landmark books, Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia and Jihad: The Rise of Militant Islam in Central Asia, Ahmed Rashid richly details the Bhutto regime’s connections to the ISI, the Taliban, “militant Islam”, multinational oil interests, and Anglo-American officials and intelligence proxies.
In Jihad, Rashid wrote:
“Ironically it was not the ISI but Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the most liberal, secular leader in Pakistan’s recent history, who delivered the coup de grace to a new relationship with Central Asia. Rather than support a wider peace process in Afghanistan that would have opened up a wider peace process in Afghanistan, Bhutto backed the Taliban, in a rash and presumptuous policy to create a new western-oriented trade and pipeline route from Turkmenistan through southern Afghanistan to Pakistan, from which the Taliban would provide security. The ISI soon supported this policy because its Afghan protégé Gulbuddin Hekmatyar had made no headway in capturing Kabul, and the Taliban appeared to be strong enough to do so.”
In Taliban, Rashid provided even more historical detail:
“When Bhutto was elected as Prime Minister in 1993, she was keen to open a route to Central Asia. A new proposal emerged backed strongly by the frustrated Pakistani transport and smuggling mafia, the JUI and Pashtun military and political officials.”
“The Bhutto government fully backed the Taliban, but the ISI remained skeptical of their abilities, convinced that they would remain a useful but peripheral force in the south.”
“The US congress had authorized a covert $20 million budget for the CIA to destabilize Iran, and Tehran accused Washington of funneling some of these funds to the Taliban—a charge that was always denied by Washington . Bhutto sent several emissaries to Washington to urge the US to intervene more publicly on the side of Pakistan and the Taliban.”
Bhutto’s one mistake: she vehemently supported the pipeline proposed by Argentinean oil company Bridas, and opposed the pipeline by Unocal (favored by the US). This contributed to her ouster in 1996, and the return of Nawaz Sharif to power. As noted by Rashid:
“After the dismissal of the Bhutto government in 1996, the newly elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his oil minister Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan, the army and the ISI fully backed Unocal. Pakistan wanted more direct US support for the Taliban and urged Unocal to start construction quickly in order to legitimize the Taliban. Basically the USA and Unocal accepted the ISI’s analysis and aims—that a Taliban victory in Afghanistan would make Unocal’s job much easier and quicken US recognition.”
Her appealing and glamorous pro-Western image notwithstanding, Bhutto’s true record is one of corruption and accommodation.
The “war on terrorism” resparked Every major Anglo-American geostrategic crime has been preceded by a convenient pretext, orchestrated and carried out by “terror” proxies directly or indirectly connected to US military-intelligence, or manipulated into performing as intelligence assets. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto is simply one more brutal example.
This was Pakistan’s 9/11; Pakistan’s JFK assassination, and its impact will resonate for years.
Contrary to mainstream corporate news reporting, chaos benefits Bush-Cheney’s “war on terrorism”. Calls for “increased worldwide security” will pave the way for a muscular US reaction, US-led force and other forms of “crack down” from Bush-Cheney across the region. In other words, the assassination helps ensure that the US will not only never leave, but also increase its presence.
The Pakistani election, if it takes place at all, is a simpler two-way choice: pro-US Musharraf or pro-US Sharif.
While the success of Bush-Cheney’s 9/11 agenda has met with mixed results, and it has met with a wide array of resistance (“terroristic” as well as political), there is no doubt that the propaganda foundation of the “war on terrorism” has remained firm, unshaken and routinely reinforced.
As for Nawaz Sharif, who now emerges as the sole competitor for Musharraf, he, like Musharraf and Bhutto, is legendary for his accommodation to Anglo-American interests—pipelines, trade, and the continued US military presence. As Jean-Charles Brisard and Guillaume Dasquie noted in the book Forbidden Truth, the October 1999 military coup led by Musharraf that originally toppled Sharif’s regime was sparked by animosity between the two camps, as well as “Sharif’s personal corruption and political megalomania”, and “concerns that Sharif was dancing too eagerly to Washington’s tune on Kashmir and Afghanistan”.
In other words, Bush-Cheney wins, no matter which asset winds up on the throne.
(I urge all my friends to read the researched based artle)

Her lust for power is her first killer. She waited till the USA had prepared the ground for her. She only returned to Pakistan after confirming that the seat of PM is ready for her. US government has itself acknowledged that they spent billions of dollars to make way for her arrival. She did not care about her people who were fooled into believing that she was coming to bring peace to their country by not fighting USA’s war. In fact, she was promising the US government of speeding up the war for them.
Those who say ISI did it should enhance their knowledge and should know that most of the terrorists in NWFP are armed and funded by CIA and their monkeys i.e RAW. ISI is only keeping some militants to launch attacks in Afghanistan as a response.

Only one person is responsiblefor Benazir’s Murder. The person who’s jail friends were guarding her and who stood to gain from her death. Who, immediately upon her death, produced her typed (but not signed ) so called will. The will that was left with a house maid, making him a co-chaireman of the party as if the party was a personal asset that can be left in will.
