KARACHI — The widower of slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto on Monday flew back to Pakistan from Dubai where he had gone to visit his children and take care of his ailing mother-in-law, party officials said.
Pakistan People’s Party spokesman Aijaz Durrani said Asif Ali Zardari had left for Dubai to see his son, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, off to Oxford and receive condolences following Bhutto’s assassination on December 27.
“He has returned to Karachi this afternoon and later headed for Sukkur on a chartered flight, which is an hour’s drive away from his home in Naudero,” Durrani said Monday.
Party officials said Zardari, co-chairman and de-facto leader of the PPP, would be traveling around, to and from Pakistan in future, ahead of February 18 elections.
