Debutant opener Nasir Jamshed scored 61 as five batsmen struck half centuries to help Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 104 runs in the first one-day international in Karachi yesterday.

Pakistan amassed 347 for five in their 50 overs with Younis Khan (79), Mohammad Yousuf (72), captain Shoaib Malik (63) and Misbah- ul Haq (55 not out) also scoring 50s after Zimbabwe surprisingly elected to bowl first on a flat National stadium pitch in the day-nighter.

Zimbabwe captain and off- spinner Prosper Utseya went for 46 runs in five overs.

The visitors fought hard in the early stages of their run chase but a steady fall of wickets towards the middle of their innings ended their chances of reaching their target.

Opener Vusi Sibanda scored a superb knock of 59 with Chamu Chibhabha (52) and Sean Williams (52) scoring half-centuries.

ZIMBABWE 243/7 (V Sibanda 59, C Chibhabha 52, S Williams 52*; Shoaib Malik 3/34).
