The bar organisations have planned a rally and a seminar to observe “Yaum-i-Iftikhar” on Jan 31.

A meeting of the office-bearers of the Sindh Bar Council, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association and Malir District Bar Association was held at the SHCBA office to draw up the day’s programme.

A rally of lawyers will be taken out from the SHC building which will culminate at the Karachi Press Club in the forenoon. A seminar on the “Rule of Law and the Independence of the Judiciary” would be held later in the bar room, SHCBA President Rasheed A. Razvi, who presided over the meeting, said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

The day is being observed to honour the services of the deposed Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, to the cause of the judiciary’s independence, he said.

This rally would pave the way for the restoration of justice, judiciary, judges and rule of law. Yaoum-e-iftikhar is the order of the day to end the cowards generals rule. The general who has not yet vcated the army house is foolishly asking the hero of Pakistan to vacate the house.Shame on generals.
Generals including Kiyani have detained the brave chief justice to silence the voices of the people. They are moving on the wrong direction. Their days are numbered;defeat has been written in their destiny. They battling a lost war. Inshallah our great hero would lead the moment with great zest and zeal. Generals ! leave this country or face the wrath of the people…

Shouldnt this be named as something other than Yaum e Iftikhar? While, everyone realises the principled stance taken up by the CJ , there are other judges and lawyers who have joined him as well. They have been detained on various occassions too and some continue to remain under detention. While these protests, rallies etc will all demand the restoration of the judiciary prior to Nov 3rd, why cant this not be about all of them..instead of making heroes out of CJ or Aitzaz or be it any one else. There seem to alot of places where CJ- Aitzaz and the other judges have been named as “heroes” while Musharraf deemed as “devil incarnate”.

I’d rather people take on a balance approach. Appreciate and support - not hero worship or blindly follow- when right and criticise when wrong. Fairly for both…unless we plan to keep on strengthening individuals once again and not institutions!
