Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain twice rejected invitations by former prime minister Shaukat Aziz in London to go out for dinner, like he hosted President Pervez Musharraf, but both times Aziz was politely snubbed.

Still a persistent Aziz met him in Chaudhry’s hotel room and discussed the outbursts of the junior cousin Pervaiz Elahi against the economic performance of his government.

At his news conference, Shujaat was specifically asked about the future role of Shaukat Aziz in Pakistani politics.

The PML-Q chief said it is now up to the former prime minister to decide about his future in Pakistani politics. But one of the close aides on the sidelines of the press conference addressed by Shujaat Hussain here the other day, laughed and told this correspondent every body including the journalists must stop talking about the return of Shaukat Aziz to Pakistan, as his chapter had already been closed and he was now history.

Shaukat twice visited the hotel where Shujaat was staying along with Senator Mushahid Hussain and Tariq Azeem to “pay his respects” to the former political godfather of Pakistani politics who once played an important role in his elevation as prime minister of Pakistan.

Since Shujaat was not interested in Aziz’s invitation for a dinner in a restaurant they simply sat in the hotel room and discussed the prevalent political situation in the country. Sources said Shaukat used his courtesy calls on Shujaat to improve his own working and personal relationship with the Chaudhrys, especially after the recent attacks of Ch Pervaiz Elahi on his poor performance.

The sources said Aziz could not afford any attack on his socio-economic reforms and policies, especially by his own colleagues in the PML-Q as it has greatly tarnished his image in the Western world, particularly among the financial institutions and the media which once admired him. But, now stories and comments have already started appearing that Aziz had left the country in a complete mess.
