A private news network was taken off air in Pakistan late Wednesday night.
It is for the second time that such action has been taken in Pakistan, despite assurances by President Pervez Musharraf to his allies that he would uphold media freedom.
According to a network official, the AAJ network that was taken off air is known for its independent approach.
AAJ television suddenly vanished from cable networks in Islamabad and several other cities as it aired a popular politics and current affairs talk show, Tariq Chaudhry, Islamabad bureau chief for the network said.
”We were not informed by any authority, nor did they warn us before this unannounced blackout,” Chaudhry said.
Musharraf had compelled some private news channels to shut down after he imposed Emergency rule in November. Only those networks that signed a code of conduct under harsh media laws were allowed to operate again.
The Emergency rule was lifted in December, but many news channels remained off air for weeks and months.
No government official was immediately available to comment on the fresh restrictions on AAJ broadcasts.

Yes the draconian law is on the ground now to terrorise those famous achors who the Generals see a threat to them. They never allow to have a free thinking soceity.
Dirty tactics a weapon of bigot generals would contitue terrorise the people in the name of code of conduct. But it would never curtail the voice of the people who have enough knowlege about the looters, plundrers, usupers and US agent generals. Musharraf is exactly taking his last breath his days are numbered. By God willing he and his fellow generals would meet a horrible fate inshallah. Probally their predecessor fanatic ZIA who was directly gieven the ticket of HELL near Bahawalpur. He and his merlicless generals sucked the blood from the vein of Pakistani people but hell sucked their blood.
The same fate is for Musharraf and his fellow by God willing…….inshallah

When will we get rid of all these dictators??? I hope & wish that we become a nation like many other real democratic nations in the west, where we can tolerate others.
