WASHINGTON, March 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Amnesty International USA will host a discussion with important leaders of the Pakistan lawyers’ movement on Tuesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the organization’s Washington, DC office. Some of the lawyers were imprisoned, and even abused, in the wake of President Pervez Musharraf’s crackdown on judicial officials and lawyers in early November.

The following leaders of the Pakistan lawyers’ movement will discuss their experience and Pakistan’s current challenges:

– Mr. Muneer A. Malik, Former President of the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association

– Mr. Hamid Khan, Former President of the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association

– Mr. Sahibzada Anwar Hamid, Former Secretary and ex-Vice President of the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association

Since Pakistan’s crisis began in early November 2007, Amnesty International has called for the reinstatement of the judiciary, the restoration of Pakistan’s constitution and rule of law, the release and reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other Supreme Court justices and the release of Pakistani lawyers including Mr. Malik.
