There have been at least four bomb blasts in Lahore today between 9 and 10 AM. Here is a list of the locations:

1. Inside FIA Office on Mall Road (one or two blasts): Unconfirmed number of deaths

2. Near Bilawal House, Model Town: 2 people dead

3. Defence: Y Block Market [Sorry about this one, the blast was loud enough to be heard in Defence, and hence some false reports were generated]

The bombs in Model Town were big enough to destroy the windows of houses up to half a kilometer radius! Even though the bomb was in F-block, windows of buildings as far as E-block have been shattered.

More reports: BBC Urdu, Associated Press, Reuters, Washington Post, elEconomista

There were actually two blasts, very horrible ones.
They were heard all over the city, (or at least most part of it) therefore everyone thought that there was a blast near his/her place.
May Allah bless all the martyrs and rest of us all.

Sadly, we are so used to this now that we stopped feeling the pain anymore… may Allah guide us.

I would also like to say that Naitazi needs to minimise interpretations in their newsstories… they make the story biased. Bomb in Defense? Did it even happen?

My daughter Asmat and I condemn these Blasts at Lahore. We hope security will be tightened, the area will be cordond off and an enquiry will be ordered. The President, the PM, my cook and driver all join me in this condemnation, but unfortunately we can do nothing. Aurangzeb.

My daughter Asmat, my cook and driver join me along with the President and PM in condemning this horrible act. We all hope that the area has been cordoned off, security has been tightened and an enquiry has been ordered but we can do nothing ourselves except to resign. Aurangzeb.

this is a sad story, it is total failour of secret agencies, and the more sad side of itis that they( secret agencies) are busy in making Govt, and collecting the sympheties for musheraff, and not doing their required work. imagine, two vehicals, full of explosives, are hovering around the city to find out their targets, and agencies are busy somewhere else.

I cannot believe that this is happening to our Model Town. This was the most peaceful place on earth, People who grew up in the Model Town of old would like to come back to take a walk in the beautiful streets of this locality.
I could not bear to see the place littered with human parts.
My friends are calling me to know what has happened. I have called all the friends and relatives to know if they are all safe. Everybody is in a shock because we could not believe that it could happen here.

Please don’t use foul language. One should stay calm , ask forgivenes and repent. Seek Allahs guidance and do not utter words of shaitan. What ever the case may be.

YES…….MT FELLOW COUNTRY MEN THIS IS THE TRUE FACE OF SUICIDE BOMBONG THAT NO PLACE IS SAFE FROM IT …..YOU CANNOT STOP THIS TYPE OF BOMBING WITHOUT THE PROPER INTELEGIENCE WORK …..
THE ONLY PROVEN WAY TO GET THE BOMBERS IS TO INFRLITRATE THEIR GROUP AND ONLY THEN YOU CAN STOP THESE KILLERS ….

FOR THAT TO HAPPEN YOU NEED DEDICATED PEOPLE WHO ARE WILING TO LAY-DOWN THEIR LIFES IN THE INTREST OF THE COUNTRY ……BECAUSE THIS COULD END-UP AS A ONE WAY TRIP….

IF WE CANNOT DO THIS,.. THEY WILL KEEP COMEING INTO OUR HOMES AND KILL AT WILL …….

WE CAN CONDEM THEM AS MUCH AS WE WANT ,, AND CRY MURDER AS MUCH AS WE CAN ,, THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO STOP THESE KILLINGS OF HUMAN LIFES …..

THEY ARE NOT HUMAN BEINGS ,, NOT MUSLIMS SURELLY,, SO JUST WISHING THAT THEY WILL STOP ON THEIR OWN WOULD CERTAINLLY BE WISHFULL THINKING AND A WASTE OF PRECIOUS ,, INDEED VERY PRECIOUS TIME .

Pakistan is finished. Sorry to say it, but Pakistan has seen better days….

I have family there, but I refuse to go there ever again. What a disaster.

  • 14 Amir // Mar 11, 2008 at 3:29 pm

I understand this is a very terrible & disappointed time in Pakistan and these people who are killing to innocent people, will go to JAHANAM Inshallah.

But I request President Musharraf to leave his position of presidency immediately as he is responsible to bring the terrorist in our country by convincing the world that Pakistanis are terrorists & Intahapasand Muslims. Pres. Mushraf is responsible to kill many good muslims (so called Intahapasand Muslims event of LAL MASJID).

He made Pakistan in this situation from the day they participated in the war of International terrorisim starting from Afghanistan to Iraq to Pakistan. This is what America, India & Israeel wants, so this is the easy way to destroy Pakistan, do busy Pak Armed forces within the country.

Now Govt/Army must find out the terrorists by spending their days and nights, use civilians groups for help.

One thing sure that these terrorists are not Pakistanis and Muslims (they are from other country)

May Allah bless Pakistan and forgive and give the right paths to our rulers.

    Dear friends, AOA.
May Allah Bless the departed souls. Tragic incidents as the ones today in Lahore must be condemned but this is not enough. It merely highlights that we have yet to developed insight into what’s happening around us. We must strongly condemn those who have become the root cause of such acts. As a nation it is high time that we must rise up and take charge of the situation. What we are seeing today is the result of our government policies of last 08 years. We have invited Allah’s wrath. We must repent as a nation and seek his forgiveness. My dear friends to get Allah’s Help in addition to praying we have to ACT. If we make the decision, Inshallah, with Allah’s Help, Pakistan will survive and become a thriving nation. Let us make this commitment to ourselves that we shall not accept blackmailing by anybody, may it be ou own army. Let us commit to raise our voice loud and clear against the falsehood. Let us not feel frustrated but gain strength from the tragedies like this to get united. Each one of us can make a difference and Inshallah, we shall do it.

May Allah’s Help be with us.

For those of us who grew up in Model Town a suicide bomb is as far from our collective memory as the quality of the different tiers of leadership that has been inflicted on us.

Little wonder then that the fruit of “Enlightened Moderation” is turning out to be extremely bitter and costly and is directly linked to General (r) Musharraf’s ill concieved policies whether they be for Madrassah reform or economic uplift of the rural poor. By the way, we spend 45% on defence and approximately 3% on education - a fine recipe for producing suicide bombers.

We live in Cantt and the blast in Reagal at the FIA buidling was heard at my house. It was so powerful that the moment we heard it, he was almost sure it’s an explosion.
May Allah bless the souls of the victims. I pray that Allah gives their families patience to endure this incidence.
At the same time, i beg for Musharraf to either give up and leave or not be a coward and do something about this situation. I hold him and only him responsible for what is happening. He could have mustered a word of condolence for the deceased, instead he is cowardly hiding somewhere!

  • 20 uzma // Mar 11, 2008 at 8:43 pm

surely it is an incident that no one can stay indifferent to, if he or she has a little bit of humanity left.
no doubt it is the most henious crime that can be committed against humanity. However when something bad comes to us we realise why not feel the plight of others?
why didnt the nation we feel the pain when all this happened in Wana, in Lal Masjid or swat?
were all those killed there were criminals and deserved to be killed? or were there many innocent lives taken or displaced.
today ask urself what if everyday u had to lose ur family members in front of ur eyes wouldnt it make u feel revengeful and digustful towards the culprits as well as those who looked indifferent to their plight? from where I look at it, the solution to all this is not to blame Islam or Muslims but to rethink our policies towards those whom we have stereotyped as terrorists and they are just fulfilling our prophecies and conforming to the roles we have assigned them.
we need to develop a bond of trust and relationship with them so that this war can end.
we have to act as a Muslim who is against the crime not the criminal let alone a whole community. I hope somebody understands what i am trying to say.

  • 21 Imran Malik // Mar 11, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Killing innocent people is forbidden in Islam, did you ever see the prophet PBUH or his companions even generations after commit these types of immoral disgusting acts, no the word Islam means submission to the will of god and peace. So who ever these groups engaging in these acts are not muslims or followers of any faith because no faith tells you to murder a human being or even killing an animal unlawfully

the only thing which comes to my mind is that PAKISTAN is being invaded by blood thirsty demons . these creatures are not humans. they are mad, wild dogs .if anybody thinks that they are doing this out of revenge than i am sorry this is not on.

  • 24 Abdul Basit Khawaja // Mar 12, 2008 at 12:10 am

They way I see it, there is done by people who can benefit from it. From the look of it, there are only two parties who can benefit from it. Either it is the extremists who want to prove their point that the operation in the Northern Areas is not fair or it is Musharaf. The reason I doubt that Musharaf has a hand behind this is that he wants to prove his foreign allies, especially Mr. Bush, that he is the only one in Pakistan who can stop such attacks. To validate his point infront of his boss, he can say that since the election results the frequency of bombs going off has become more. Additionally, when the new parliament tries to impeach him, he will use the power given to him by 58-2(B) to dismiss the parliament on the basis that they were trying to kick him out rather than doing anything against the sucide bombers. He’s playing his moves very accurately but the only problem for him is that people understand him very well. As one of his former military colleague said once, ” I will not be suprised if this clever ruler is behind all the sucide attacks,” a former corps commander says and the nation understands too.

We should be truthful.Islam does not forbid Muslims to speak truth.Killers are brainwashed innocent Muslim youth believing they are avenging wrongs done to their faith and co-faithful. Unable to get to the real culprit, they take the local targets whom their mentors describe to be the enemy agents.
Surely, their mentors/motivators are acting against the true religion. But they call themselves(and many behlieve) to be ‘true defenders of Islam’ and they were amongst those who called US proxy war to be ‘jihad’.Our people are paying with their blood for their sins of commission.Isn’t that so?

It was horrible. This is often happening in our country and now we are used to it, people outside pakistan think tha we are terrorists but somebody else is doing this ,our bitterest enemy……. we should all pray from Allah that may this country be blessed with peace and serenity like it was before!!!! For any body who thinks that pakistan is a dangerous place is wrong.

we must stand together as a united nation and tell the world that no one can break us apart!

Can somebody explain why on earth is there an FIA or SIU office in the middle of F-Block. The Model Town Society that is being run by the touts of the Nazim ought to be held responsible for the three innocent deaths - two of which were children - and damages ought to be filed by Salman Batalvi, the owner of 83-F, Model Town for financial loss and mental anxiety that he must continue to suffer.

  • 31 I. Hafeez // Mar 14, 2008 at 11:50 am

My hats are off for the people of Pakistan!! It is a nation uner seize. A nation that has gone through a transition period, has revolutioned itself in a manner that is unmatched in the history of the subcontinent. Pakistanis are bearing it all in spirit, body and emotions. The killings of many innocent people on the streets of Lahore signals the sunami in the making where certain forces just can not stand any kind of stability in the region. One can condemn the killers as much as one can, and rightly so, however, one needs to dig for the underpinings that have all those puppets in play and action and causing so much devastation in human lives. What can really make a difference, and is making a difference is, the unity among the people of Pakistan. The non-violent protests need to continue till the culprit puts the arms down.
