On March 9th, the lawyers of Pakistan together with conscientious citizens from all walks of life, kicked off Blag Flag Week, a week of protests demanding the restoration of the independent judiciary of Pakistan.
Present at the rally that started at Zaman Park from Aitezaz Ahsan’s residence was a delegation of the families of our fellow countrymen who have been kidnapped by intelligence agencies, labelled terrorists and denied due process.
Their families are stuck in a state of limbo, ignorant of the fate of their loved ones, unclear whether they should mourn for their passing or dare to hope for their return. Often, those recovered due to the intervention of the Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court (before 3rd Nov., 2007) told harrowing tales of torture. And in many cases, the stricken families have suffered emotionally as well as materially.
Is there nothing we can do? Is there a point at which we say, “Enough is enough!” ? Or do you believe that they must have done something wrong?
What could be so wrong that the accused (not yet convicted) is not even produced in court, but simply disappears into a hole?
