Family members of Sarabjit Singh are applying for visas to visit Pakistan, they hope to meet Singh, who has on Wednesday received a month’s reprieve on his death sentence.

Pakistan has put off the execution of Sarabjit till April 30. It was earlier fixed for April 1.

This followed India’s appeal for clemency on humanitarian grounds.

New Delhi said this only means partial success, but Pakistan isn’t saying if he will be saved from the gallows yet.

Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur has appealed to all Indians who have relatives stuck in Pakistani jails to contact her with the details.

She hopes to pass these on to Pakistani authorities and demand action.

Sukhpreet Kaur, wife Sarabjit on Wednesday night said it was for the Indian government to work out the modalities with the Pakistan government on how to get freedom for her husband.

”My family and I are happy that the Pakistan government has deferred the hanging of Sarabjit Singh by a month. It is now for the Indian government to see how best it can get Sarabjit back in India,” said Sukkhpreet.

She also clarified her earlier statement that her husband’s freedom should not be in exchange for release of any terrorist from Indian jail.

She said she was emotionally over-whelmed when she made the earlier statement.

Sukhpreet had requested the Indian government not to exchange Sarabjit Singh’s freedom for terrorists.

Pakistan has indicated that it wants India to release some Pakistani nationals being held in Indian jails.

To this Sukhpreet said, ”I and my daughters would never like that Sarabjit should be freed if any hardcore Pakistani terrorists lodged in Indian jails are released in exchange. Nothing is above the nation and we can’t go against the interests of our motherland.”

Sarabjit is on death row in Pakistan after being convicted for involvement in blasts in Lahore and Multan 17 years ago. (With PTI inputs)

i am sure he will be acquitted. Pakistanis have a big heart unlike its neighbours who send dead bodies in return.
