3 soldiers killed, 2 injured during simulations to show off arsenal

POKHARAN, India - The Thar desert boomed with artillery guns as tanks kicked up dust and fighter aircraft flew on bombing runs.

It may have looked like war, but it was actually an elaborate simulation to demonstrate to international observers that India has become a major military power.

Observers from 60 countries watched Wednesday’s war games, code-named “Brazen Chariots,” in Pokharan, the site in the western desert of Rajasthan where India conducted a series of underground nuclear tests in 1998.
The area is 60 miles from Pakistan, but officials said the war games were not directed at their neighbor. The nuclear-armed rivals have fought three wars since independence in 1947.

“We are not sending out any message,” said Indian army chief Deepak Kapoor. “It is purely to see what kind of synergy the Indian air force and the army are able to achieve when put together.”

An accident marred the exercise, however.

Three soldiers were killed and two others injured when a 5-inch mortar gun exploded, army spokesman Virender Singh said, adding the army ordered an inquiry into the accident.

With India emerging as one of the world’s biggest buyers of military hardware, international aviation and military equipment manufacturers are seeking a share of billions of dollars in potential defense contracts.

One of world’s largest armies
India has been holding joint war games with several countries whose representatives were invited for the exercise, including the United States and China, which India fought in a brief but bloody border war in 1962.

Military observers from South Africa, Italy, Germany, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Kenya and Kuwait and a number of other countries also watched Wednesday’s exercise.

India’s 1.3 million-member army is one of the world’s largest but is hampered by outdated equipment, much of it Soviet-era relics. In recent years, India has gone on a major arms buying spree to update its weaponry.

It plans to spend $26 billion on defense in the next fiscal year, up 10 percent from the current budget.

“I think India is displaying the professionalism of its armed forces. It is pushing forward its forging relations with lots of foreign countries,” said Brigadier Richard Nugee of the British army. “That’s a very good thing.”

    wat about 1965 war..?
    wat about 1971 war..?
    wat about 1999 war..?
according to you guyz it was done by the same starving and not well feded Army .

The Indian Army has a total troop strength of around 2.5 million (1.3 million active and 1.2 million reserve) and is the second largest standing army in the world. Indian Army is one of the major contributors to various United Nation missions.
    SOURCE ( WIKIPEDIA)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Army

Pak Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that “A total 73 per cent of the country’s population was living below the poverty line”
More poverty means more frustration for the family and the head of the family, which means more subjugation of women and more violence against women.

If you are level-headed visit outlookindia.com and you will see an article stating that the americans TRAINED in one of the military schools in India You will also see an american officer conceding that the indian army is one of the best trained armies in the world ps- The Americans came to Train here, it was not a joint exercise
Till date Pakistan had been working as a copycat of India. When ever India fired a missile, Immediate answer comes from Pakistan with another one. When India tested Neuclear weapons, immediately Pak followed. The Pak limited its copying only in missiles. Why not it did copy India in Democracy, In Development, In Space, in equality to all the religions. Why not any single citizen of Pak could ever question their Govt on all these.
All Pakistanis, you know now that India is Second largest Muslim country in the world. Every Indian muslim is given a fair chance to grow, to flourish in a free world, to seek his profession of his choice. Even great Muslim personalities were offered the greatest honour of being the First Citizen of India. The famous personality Mr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam was elected unanimously as the President of India. He was never seen as a Muslim. The whole country felt like honoured by electing him as its beloved President.

1965 remember somthing ,the INDIAN army took only 38 hours to enter pakistan and u took around 3 to 4 months in kargil and even then could not do anything. sorry to say this but baap baap hota hai aur beta beta

    check this out
    http://www.globalfirepower.com/

GlobalFirepower (GFP) provides a unique analytical display of information based on sources from all over the globe. As per the website, pakistan ranks at 20th position & India in the 4th position.

India’s economy is in double digits, where as the pakistan is almost in the lower single digits.India has more money & purchasing power or can fund its indigineious military requirements. where as pakistan depends more on chinese technology, which are not for superior but could be a threaten in the game of war
Defeat is defeat now don’t try to bargain it with quality & quantity. History had written Defeat & surrender many times on the name of Pakistan & that will continue in future & that was ofcourse with quality. Haven’t you seen those pictures? Pakistan General signs his surrender to Indian army. Google for it & See them. it was even published in ur DAWN. That page of ur newspaper is still hanging as poster frame in our military schools.

Lets face the truth (Sad but true…)

akistaan 48 million people struggle daily on US$2.00 or less. Reaching beyond that is only a dream.

Pakistan’s majestic fortresses bear witness to a country in deep poverty, where more than a third of children under five are underweight. A shocking 30-35 women die everyday from pregnancy related complications. Half the population is illiterate and more than 40% of the population is under 15.
Pakistan is ranked 142 on the Human Development Index, compared to India 118 and Uganda 146. United Nations Development Programme.
Unlike the mountain tribes who live a land-locked existence for most of the year blissfully unaware of the world beyond, Pakistani children face daily hazards related to child labour, violence and trafficking.
An estimated 62% of Pakistan’s three million are under age 18. Daily struggles are compounded by natural hazards like flooding and landslides, which always hit the poor hardest.

It is my pleasure to tell you that Among the 54 flawed democracies; India is seventh and overall 35th in whole world & maintained a stable government since its independence. India’s economy ranks 4th in world. India’s Reserves of foreign exchange and gold ($148,000,000,000) Ranked 6th in world. India’s Military Ranked 3rd in world, 2nd largest army,3rd largest air force, 4th largest navy . Bollywood ranks 2nd after Hollywood, The Indian film industry is the largest in the world in terms of the ticket sales and the number of films produced annually (877 feature films and 1177 short films were released in the year 2003 alone). Indian Railway is one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world, transporting sixteen million passengers and more than one million tonnes of freight daily. India again ranks 3rd in producing quality Scientists, Engineers & Doctors. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch its first moon satellite Known as “Chandrayaan 1″ in April 2008 & ISRO hopes to land a motorised rover on the moon in 2010 or 2011, will be known as “Chandrayaan 2″. Kalpna Chawla & Sunita Williams were the Indian women who played leading role in “ISS”. India is on the way to become a superpower in Asia just after China. Phew….!!! There is much more to tell about our achievements but I think this is enough.

Do you know Islamabad has 80000+ beggars….? Your saying millions are still living on service road in India but do you know that, more than millions in Pakistan don’t even have roads? May be India is poor but you should notice Pakistan is poorest.
If you think this information is manipulated or is a hoax or the sources are unreliable, I advise you to run your own search.

when it comes to facts and figures der hands are up..
Ask anyone in the western world, what comes to mind when they think of a Pakistani and an Indian. Both raise a few eye brows, Pakistani’s for reasons not associated with technical prowness, development, astute political saviness or visionary business accumen, but for all the other wrong reasons, which i don’t want to specify. Compare that to an Indian, he/she is taken for all the above reasons, and recent cherry picking that Indian companies have done in the west , adds credibility to that fear. Indian’s mean business, dont want trouble. As for Pakistan, they haven’t even started with nation building yet.

dr.Amit Kumar had been running the illegal kidney trade racket involving several foreign recipients for more than eight years, the police commissioner said. Cases had been registered against Amit Kumar in Delhi, in Guntur in southern Andhra Pradesh state and in Mumbai. The usually illiterate daily wage labourers, who routinely earn between 100 to 200 rupees (2.5 to 5 dollars) a day, were lured to the clinics with promises of money, the police said. They were paid between 50,000 to 100,000 rupees (1,200 to 2,540 dollars) and allowed to return home after their organ was removed.

It could be a cultural thing. In America you can raise to whatever social level you want with hard work and dedication. In India there is still the belief you are born into your class and that’s that, you could become a millionaire but it wouldn’t change your class. Something as simple as a caste system could be whats clashing with the American ideal of democracy.

Dude i confess these things happens in India But not Only in India but in every Country and in your country if i will start giving details of these stuff then you wil feel ashamed of your people and the list will never end..
So in short Mr .Najmi, my answer to your question is simple
Ask anyone in the western world, what comes to their mind when they think of a Pakistani and an Indian. Both raise a few eye brows, Pakistani’s for reasons not associated with technical prowness, development, astute political saviness or visionary business accumen, but for all the other wrong reasons, which i don’t want to specify. Indian’s mean business,IT, Knowledge and don’t want trouble
We are everywhere for good things and your people are nowhere because of your bad stuffs..

DATZ WHY WE ARE PROUD TO BE INDIANS
So do you guyz feel the same for ur country ??

    cheers….

I read this blog and did not understand one thing——to my brothers in India….why we should make other countries count in what ways we are good at. Our hard work has been recognized in the world. India is globally recognized for our good achievements. I don’t see a reason why we should make other countries count it. If some people of Pakistan think that we have not achieve anything its fine. If they think they are more advanced than India, I say they are the most advanced country in the word.

Please my Indian bro’s lift our thinking….its not a time to quarrel for these small narrow minded blogs. Think Globally …….we have to achieve a lot to present India as a Global leader. JAI HIND

shirullzaman khan, I wholeheartedly agree with you bro, I simply fail to see the point of all this hatred between India Pakistan. We should infact be working as a team to uplift our people living in deplorable conditions. I’ve met and worked with equally talented and brilliant people from both countries and I’ll be honest if they didn’t tell me their nationalities, i could never tell..ergo we are the same people regardless of wht the british empire did so long ago. its sad to see that we fall prey to the divide and conquer strategies of other countries even now. . .consider policies implemented by U.S., china and russia. i really hope we soon get rid our raggedy old politicians and get some well educated people on both sides. An official in the Indian state of Bihar has come up with a new idea to encourage low caste poor people to cope with food shortages - rat meat.

The Principal Secretary of the state’s Welfare Department, Vijay Prakash, said that he was advancing his proposal after “much survey and ground work”.

Leo u r ill informed. So don’t make statements which ur not aware. U r sick thats why u talk of rotten rat. There is no need to eat rats when we have pigs, goats, fish etc.

    KEN

read properly statement is from u r government not by any paki.
we know wat kind of great u pplz are.

  • 59 ken // Oct 4, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Leo, Why u r bothered who wants to eat what?? India is a Democratic country if they want to eat rat, dog , snake or cat or anything else its their choice. Its not due to starvation that they want to eat these animals, there r tribal peoples who eat this & also elite pplz. wanna eat rat. So why the hell , any one should be concerned about this.

When pplz in China , France , Singapore, Thaliand etc. can eat rat, cat, snake, dog, worms, lizards, cockroaches etc. then why can’t indians eat this.
