Shoaib Akhtar’s were contract with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, but were shattered with the BCCI deciding it would not let him participate till the end of his ban or until his ban was lifted.

The controversial bowler were banned for five-year on Tuesday by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for disciplinary reasons, but PCB confirmed that he(Shoaib) can feature in the lucrative Twenty20 league starting on April 18 or in county cricket.

Although fast bowler will not be allowed to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) until his suspension is lifted, Indian Premier league chairman Lalit Modi said today.

“We have based this (banning Shoaib) upon the five-year ban placed on him by the PCB”, Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman, told a television channel. “They(PCB) have banned him, so there is no way a sister-concern like us (BCCI) can allow such a player to take part.”

However, if the ban is lifted Akhtar will be allowed to participate. “If he is able to clear the ban and wins the appeal process, he will be allowed to play”, Modi said.
