Playing against Bangladesh is a dull contest but playing in dark is more horrible than playing against any weaker side. It was although a day and night game between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Lahore, but night factor was more illustrated due to three time power failure.
While chasing down a healthy target of 323 posted by Pakistan on a flatter-track, Bangladesh lost their three wicket on 49-runs, then suddenly due to power failure the ground turn into dark just after the 12th over and match was called-off by umpire till the fixing of the floodlights. This is the second time such incident happened in the same venue, first one happened when West Indies were here in November 2006 and play was halted for sixty minutes.
I am strange to be acknowledged that in Pakistan this is the first stadium to be equipped with modern floodlights which have their own standby power generators.
Anyhow, today’s match comprises of couple of interrupts due to power failure once it was after 12th over of Bangladesh innings for half an hour, while the other interrupt occurs when floodlight that is behind the pavilion end of Gaddadi Stadium went off for another 18-minutes.
At one stage Bangladesh were on 105 for 9 and contest was nearly on the brim to be over, there occurred another blackout, the same floodlight over the pavilion end got dim, but this time decided to continued the match.
Pakistan bowling shattered down Bangladeshi batting line very cheaply and overcome by 152 runs along with a lead of 1-0 with four match remaining.
Shine of the day, despite a power failure
After picking his second wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq, Mashrafe Mortaza became the second bowler from Bangladesh to achieve the 100-wicket and the first pace bowler to do it. “Definately it is a good feeling, but the team didn’t play so well today so I’m not that happy”, said Mortaza.
