DUBAI: Pakistan’s envoy to Afghanistan Tariq Azizuddin, who went missing from Khyber agency, appeared in a video aired by an Arab news channel in which he said the Taliban were holding him.
The kidnapped Pakistani ambassador appealed government to accept demands of the Taliban so that he and his two associates could be released.
The ambassador was on his way to Afghanistan on February 11 when he was kidnapped in the region of Khyber.
Azizuddin said he was held with his driver and bodyguard, and that they were living in comfortable conditions and were looked after. In the videotape, his driver Gul Nawaz and Body Guard Amir Sultan sat next to Azizuddin, while three gunmen stood in the background.
Azizuddin called upon the government of Pakistan and Pakistan’s envoys in Iran and China to “to do all they can to protect their lives and to answer all the demands of the Mujahedeen of Taliban in order to secure their release.
