ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government and people have shown their true love, friendship, harmony, dedication and spirit towards the people of China by making the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay successful, beautiful, fabulous and remarkable.

This was stated by Luo Zhao Hui, ambassador of People Republic of China, at a crowded press conference in Sports Complex here Friday. Luo said it was a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction for the Chinese government that the people of Pakistan and their government had played their tremendous role in make the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay a success.

“I warmly thank the people and government of Pakistan on behalf of the Chinese government and people for welcoming the torch relay in Pakistan as the event reflected the love and affection of the Pakistanis who showed keen interest and involvement in the event,” he said.

Hui added the major contribution was made by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), especially its president Lt-Gen (retd) Arif Hassan and all those related to POA.

The participation of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani along with other celebrities accorded respect to the Chinese people and government, said Hui. He added the whole Chinese nation was thankful to the president and PM of Pakistan. He also lauded the role of Pakistani media in success of the event, adding the live telecast and coverage played an important role in success of the event. He added the event had further strengthened ties between the two countries. He said the Chinese government was providing full assistance to the Pakistani people and journalists in getting visas.

On this occasion, POA President Lt-Gen (retd) said the successful torch relay was a great honor to the whole nation. He thanked all the participants of the event for their contribution.
