“All’s well that ends well”, obviously Pakistan thinking after all the easy went games with Bangladesh who was and is basically a weak competitor, although Tiger losing all contest cheaply but finally Siddons Bangladeshi coach wins in the end by accepting that “realistically I came here thinking we might lose 5-0, You guys might think that is negative thinking but I think it is realistic. I know where we stand, where we are and where we need to get” such positive approach which seem like negative but accepting it in a positive manner is a big thing than apart.
However, Pakistan won the series of five ODI’s and register a record of eleven consecutive wins for Pakistan in ODI’s but the question arrives in ones mind that are we good enough to make this consecutive wins record and what have we gained from the series.
Whereas, the series was basically arranged as a substitute because Australia refused to tour Pakistan due to security concerns, so the Pakistan got the goat under the label of Tigers. This tour was for purposively to groom the youngsters and to create competitions for the places in the playing eleven.
But did Pakistani selectors did their work honestly? The youngsters who were given a go in this series were very few Naumanullah and Mansoor Amjad were the new faces. Nasir Jamshed who proved much more promising much against Zimbabwe but couldn’t carry on his work against the Bangladesh as he made just 41 runs in two matches he played before he got injured and lost his place to Bazid Khan middle order right handed batsmen in the third and fourth ODI of the series he was unfortunate to be run out in the third ODI but in the fourth ODI he made his presence felt but with a struggling half-century. The next name was of Naumanullah who got his international cap in the last ODI and was sent at no seven to bat when there were just three overs left and could manage just 5 runs.
Seem like selectors are promoting such player to shut the mouth of the critics but using them when three overs left isn’t fair with them, I agree Bangladesh who are just above Zimbabwe status-wise but in fact they won’t harm Pakistan but selection management along with the captain were still cautioners of using a real young blood team instead of using those who already played more than 175+ matches in their career, in short they didn’t ever trusted and haven’t ponder their confidence on their backup slot this mean they accepted that there is no backup for them.
Pakistani skipper thinks “Zimbabwe’s batting was better than Bangladesh’s; they batted according to the match situation whereas Bangladesh attacks from the start. There is only a small difference between the two sides.” I think he forgot that Bangladesh registered their best ever run chase of 285/308 and the minor but enough to be felt the wounds given by Shakib Al Hasan in the form of 75 and 108 runs.
Finally wrapping up, I think Pakistan should promote their backup players and let them play against such low profile teams and should prepare a same caliber team to compete with Bangladesh.
