ISLAMABAD (AFP) — Pakistan decided to send two plane loads of emergency aid to Myanmar for survivors of last week’s cyclone, the foreign office said.

The relief includes tents, mosquito nets and medicines, it said in a statement.

“The aircraft are expected to leave on Sunday,” the statement said, without giving further details.

Myanmar was hit by Cyclone Nargis last Saturday, leaving 60,000 people dead or missing and as many as two million more short of food, water and supplies.

The military regime has refused to allow in foreign aid experts to direct the relief effort and said that, although it will accept money and aid, it must distribute all supplies itself.
