We are the beginning of the new century which is nearing its first decade, more than six decades old and are still lagging behind in the field of education. People from the west have reached the moon and are trying to touch other galaxies because they invest in the most vital entity for the survival of harmony – education. Education instills in one’s mind the urge to excel in ones desired field. Moreover, it acts as an eye-bath for the eyes of the public which are relentlessly being infected by the dust blown by selfish opportunist leaders. But for the past sixty years, ‘adventurers’ of the ‘MT. loot-at-every-given-opening’ have denied the human of its basic right i.e. education. To save their skin from accountability of drying up our resources, these sly capitalist organizers have spread foolishness into the houses of the masses because they know that if education prevails then they would have to pack their bags up to go for a long and agonic journey to hell. As a result, the most important condition required for the spread of education is political will because without it there would be no commitment i.e. absence of a positive result. To achieve positive results in the field of education so that we make the populace literate following steps are must.
Firstly and most importantly, the children should be provided free education and parents should be provided employment opportunities so that they don’t force their children into the work-field. Government should open up nationalized business which will be involved in the manufacture of goods which can be exported for a profit. These government business ventures should open up in each and every ‘nook and corner’ of the country so that local people are employed, and paid well, so that they don’t push their children into the pit of work field. This would encourage parents to send their children to school and will also help the government to provide education on the house with the funds generated through the business ventures.
Secondly, the infrastructure of the school should be upgraded so that level of commitment and urge for achievement rises. In Pakistan, most of the students in the government schools are deprived of electricity several times during the school timings which disallows the school to use laboratory and computer facilities. Moreover, due to the menace of electricity state of the art technology for teaching and learning purpose is not available in Pakistan. To regularize this condition, government should provide ‘state of the art’ schools in poor districts so that the children learn in a healthy environment where all facilities are provided for their progress. Moreover, the government should advise WAPDA not to disconnect electricity at schools and universities as it hinders the education process. Additionally number of classes should be increased, toilets should be hygienic i.e. the infrastructure should be analyzed.
Thirdly, the curriculum and standard of teachers should be examined and new measures should be taken to improve the condition. The curriculum is so dull that it does not motivate the children. Children are being taught Allah is great but make them understand the meaning of Allah and his greatness. Stories from Prophet Muhammad’s life should be shared with the children in lighter vein so that the understanding of Islam increases in their mind. Moreover, the curriculum should be made entertaining so that the children enjoy it and learn from it. This will also help in eradicating the problem of booty mafia and blind memorizing. Teaches should conduct exercises so that the children could apply what they have learnt. Most importantly, there should be a ‘check and balance’ system placed at a district level to monitor the teachers. An awful teacher is enough to kill the inspiration in a child who wishes to progress in the future. There have been cases against teachers either punishing children harshly for small mistakes or molesting them. Such activities crush down the morale of a child and can lead him to a dangerous curve of life where a ‘do or a die’ consequence arises. Therefore, curriculum should be so good that even if the teacher is below standard, children learn to ask questions – to ask a question is 50% knowledge. On the other hand, teachers should be selected on the basis of merit so that all probabilities of mismanagement are buried down.
Finally, the government has to play a vital role to implement these measures. Implementation is the key word and political will is the machinery to do it. Government should take all the parties concerned (parents, teachers, administration and youngsters) and make a forum where problems related to the education field are evaluated. Moreover, awareness campaign in rural and urban areas should kick started so that all the parties learn the importance of education. Under performers in school should also be encouraged by the authorities. In order to take this step, government should deploy counsel at all educational institutions to help students with their troubles. Moreover, schemes like ‘Parha Likha Punjab’ should not be initiated because these projects were completely depended on World Bank loans so that individuals can gain popularity. It also creates a dent on our liabilities which pushes us deeper into the pit of debts.
We as a nation have the duty to provide the coming generations with the wealth of knowledge which includes the studies of the world and religion. This duty can be performed exceptionally well if there is dedication from all parties involved. Pakistan has become a vulnerable state because bad decisions are been taken regularly which has caused a leadership crisis. We have to educate the children today so that we make them ready to face the challenges of tomorrow and make them future leaders of Pakistan. Let’s groom the future leaders of Pakistan.

This is a post that really points to a real problem faced by our nation and unless our children do not receive the education, this nation will always have such problems as Dictatorship, lack of democrats and corrupt and inefficient judiciary and inept lawyers.
Our Sardars, Waderays, and Zamindars are running the show of democracy and until they remain at their game, yours and my dream of an educated dream will remain a dream.
Thanks Basit Saheb for a mature and thoughtful article. I hope you show a calm and thoughtfilness in other posts as you have shown in this post.

@pervez
I express my gratitude for the appreciation. I would not go on the defense to protect my other posts. Lack of Education is the main problem because education is the foundation for a country on which empires are built. Education gives the person the gift to analyze between right and wrong.

Slogans do not solve Nation’s problems. Real desire to do something for Pakistan will. Unfortunately the desire to do that lacks while desire for selfserving at the expense of Pakistan is abound. Sloganeering also shows a lack of real ability to help is because of lack of education as Mr. Basit is so rightfully pointing at.
As an example while riding a train out of Karachi Cantt station you see the walls covered with “Safai Nisf Iman Hai” while mounds of trash as high as 6 to 10 feet can be seen for miles.
Do we really think that all problems will solve once Musharraf leaves. No that will not happen. Unless we change the mentalities, change the system, and replace most of the dirt that we have including Sharifs, Zardaris, and Chaudhrys, nothing good will take place.
Those of us who have been seen Pakistan since its independence know well that democracy was devastated in Pakistan by no other than our civilian leaders like Ghulam Mohammad and Judiciary like justice Munir’s Supreme court. Then it was followed by our Army like Ayub Khan.
We did get our independence in 1947 but our we really free. No the British Goras have been replaced by Pakistani Gora Sahebs. Now a small elite consisting of big land owners has taken over. People of Pakistan are not empowered. Majority of our voters are bonded and not free and we have vote banks consisting of them How can people who are used to an army of servants, will serve the people. No they just use that to be in a position to be served by million. Democracy for them is just a system to massage their egos only.

Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan, says:
Fard qayam rabte millat say hai tanha kuchh nahein
Mauj hai darya main aur berune darya kuchh nahein
well a good try. Illiteracy is the national problem of Pakistan. i think Pakistan has made steady but slow progress in literacy over the first half-century.

so if v get rid of the sharifs zardari bhuttos and the chaudhary so who do u suggest should lead the country?

i know our country is in crisis and there r other issues as important as the impeachment of musharraf like restoration of judges, wheat shortage, electricity, oil prices.
but if they dont remove mushy fast then the govt. wil dissolve just like it happened in palestine.
Ismail Hanya won the elections with two third majority but just bcz he didnt remove mehmood abbas the govt dissolved.i know the impeachement of musharraf wil not solve al the problems but it wil solve a big one called dictatorship.
and i dont think sloganeering means lack of education and that the people dont have the passion and wil to do something for the country.just bcz some one passes slogans doesnt mean they r sitting idle at home doing nothing but critisizing.v r working as hard as v we can for the welfare of this country and wil do so til the end of life.
may u have neverheard of something called FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

For some just removivg Musharraf will solve all the problems. So we had no problems before 1999.
My solution will be to what India did after its independence. No land holdings more than 200 acres and feudalism was uprooted. Feudalism has caused problems like assasination of Liaqat Ali Khan, dissolution of Democratic Governments in 1950s and legalization of every overthrow of Governments by Civilian and Military Leaders by our erstwhile judiciary and even dismemberment of the Country. Either we are dealing with totally ignorants of our history. Remember Justice Munir who was the first to legalize an overthrow in the name of Doctrine of Necessaity.
If you are really serious and love the country. you need to think about the root causes and Musharraf is not one of them. He is a sysmptom of the causes. We need to respect each other irrespective of our ethnicity only then we will be a nation otherwise will turn and balkanize it by the time we realize the problems that we failed to fix.
Nawaz Sharif, Zardari and Chaudhry and Altaf are the continuation of these tainted characters. They can steal, plunder, rob, and play nepotism and favoritism and call themselves leaders. Is our nation this bad?

Education is one of the most important tools that a society possesses. The right implementation of this tool is one of the greatest ways of assuring the quality of life within a society. The ability to better our selves is one of the strongest inherit abilities of the human race. Without the consistent development of the human race, life would be nothing more than survival. At its most basic level of definition, education is nothing more than the teaching of ideas.
One of the biggest differences in education is between public and private schools. In a society that values money such as ours, the rich are given a better background in education than most people. For the general public, students are taught the same material, and excel at different rates than other students. The people that dont grasp the material fall behind and become the working class within our society. Those that excel become the backbone of our society, feuling our economy and developing ideas within our world.
The skills that are learned are definitely important, but the determination and attitude learned is priceless. Every person cannot get the same schooling and education. Every person is different and has a place in society. Not everyone can be number 1. In equalities definitely exist in education. The rich seems to get richer and the poor seem to become poorer.
A society consists of different classes of people, and each class is essential for the survival of all. The gap between the rich and the poor can never be eliminated, but by educating our people maybe it can become smaller.
