Some years ago, I wrote, ‘In Pakistan, every politician goes to bed at night with the dream that he would wake up next morning as the Prime Minister.’
Similarly, I’d say today that, ‘Every journalist in Pakistan goes to bed every night with the thought that he would wake up next morning as the Information Minister or as Chairman of the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).’
Not only I repeated my above statement over the years but Pakistan’s 60 years history is witness that these two classes of Pakistan (Politicians & Journalists) have proved that I was right.
In fact, Pakistan is a weird country. In many ways it is different than almost any other country in the world. You can find the dirtiest and the ugliest people in Pakistan. You can find the most conscienceless, dheet, beghairat, the greediest and the most corrupt people in Pakistan. The unique quality of the Pakistani people is that, ‘every single ************ has a price’. The only thing needed is that you have the money to buy him!
Dr. Shahid Masood, who basically has a background of National Students Federation (NSF of People’s Party) is a failed surgeon by profession. He got attracted some 7-8 years ago toward journalism. His thinking was that journalism brings in a lot of money. He remained with ARY ONE WORLD and then joined GEO TV.
In Pakistani politics, if you want to succeed or you want to grow and reach some top government position or you want to make lots of money, you have to abuse, curse and shoot at the government, the military, and the Establishment or give a big shit to the United States (what Imran Khan, Aitzaz Ahsan, Mirza Aslam Baig, Hameed Gul, Talat Hussain, Nusrat Javed (Aaj TV), Hamid Mir (Geo), Dr. Shahid Masood (ex-Geo now PTV) are doing and did.
The present Pakistani ambassador to the U.S., Hussain Haqqani, Q-League Information Secretary Mushahid Hussain and the recently appointed Dr. Shahid Masood as Chairman of PTV are some the Beghairats (conscienceless) ************s who rose from journalism and reached to lucrative positions.
I am sure few more like Kamran Khan, Hamid Mir, Talat Hussain, Ansar Abbasi are also dreaming about waking up one fine morning to get some good news from Zardari.
But my question to these freaks is this: Why don’t you learn a lesson from Benazir Bhutto, Z. A. Bhutto, Indira Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi, Ziaul Haque, Sheikh Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Idi Amin, Shah of Iran and many others who. Despite hundreds of millions of dollars died miserably. Not only these new wannabes are deepening their graves while they are alive but would leave hell for their children and survivors.
Congratulations Dr. Shahid Masood. But be assured that your position is connected to Asif Zardari and Peoples Party. The life of PPP is not too long and I suggest you book your house in Dubai or London in advance so that when you are dismissed from PTV by the next government, you won’t be able to have a program like “Terey Mutabiq”!
Shame on you. You were delivering sermons and lectures against the government and fell in the lap of the same government, Zardari and Rehman Malik, just for the sake of money and post to kiss their backs and lick their boots.
I would suggest to the others, Talat Hussain, Nusrat Javed, Hamid Mir, Kamran Khan and Ansar Abbasi to learn a lesson from Dr. Shahid.

Na my friend, I am a Shahid Masood fan as well and initially i have to admit that the news hurt me bad as well, but think about it yarr..
There are two kind of people “Doers” and “Thinkers” let be positive and say that Dr.Shahid Masood has arose up from being a Thinker to a Doer now, Lets hope that he will change the PTV face and our National Television will be an example by his hard work and sinciarity.

Though there is nothing inherently bad in accepting the government job or specifically becoming the chairman of state-owned Pakistan Television, but when you see the whole scheme of things, the appointment of Dr. Shahid Masood, the anchorperson of renowned GEO News TV talk show “Meray Mutabiq” as the new chairman of the Pakistan Television reeks, and it reeks very badly.
The things become more fishy, when you also keep in perspective the recent ban on his program along with the program of Hamid Mir. GEO News then shifted it’s setup from Dubai to Pakistan, and Hamid Mir resumed his program “Capital Talk”, but mysteriously Shahid Masood never resumed, while the slide on GEO told us that he would resume soon.
He did resume, but as the new chairman of the PTV. I still remember his aloof rhetoric and the high rise slogans, and then I read in the media that he stooped so low that he also demanded that along with the hefty salary and all the perks and privileges, he would also get the percentage of earning from his programs aired by the PTV.
PTV is the mouthpiece of the state. It has never changed it’s stance and it’s very hard that it would do so. Shahid Masood may get a lush push job with all the majesty and access to the Prime Minister House and the President House (why not?), but his credible standing has become tainted for ever.
The unknown person like Pervaiz Rashid was better than the Dr Shahid Masood. Pervaiz Rashid was the previous chairman of the PTV during the second term of Nawaz Sharif, who had refused to take any salary from the national exchequer.

It has come as a surprise to all of us I guess but calling it a sold-out is going a bit too far in one’s prespective. One has to become a part of system tp change it. I guess Dr. sahab may have this is mind.
As far as the salary package is concerned, It has been openly told that he would take a percentage of his prog’s but no where has the other perk’s being mentioned as a salary in itself.
About Pervaiz sb quite rightly said that one can not be a burden to National Exchequer but if One is not then questions are raised over the source of income itself. And that has already been done when he was working for the Geo and ARY calling him an American agent. Also Pervaiz sb never did prog for the PTV.
Last but not the least let us hope that it comes as a step towards right direction in making PTV a family TV channel with obsence dominating it going off and away and standard of news as well as other progs beiung raised.

Mr.Salman Lets give him chance of doing something differnt.He is a good historian and knows it very well that political selection on top seats mostly finish as an humillting end.If he would continue his job for which he is popular then surely it would help our old fashioned tv system to improve its old fashioned level but if he would adopt typical ways of sticking to that post then we are here to criticise him.But before his arrival or display of work we have apprehended negative attitude towards him and completely forget his high level researches that he had presented to us through ARY and geos.

Speaking Truth is the most old fashioned but most desired element in public life. The track record you create for yourself predicts your destination; this man has a poor record of creating disinformation and must neither be given a chance nor be trusted, He belongs in that ill reputed brothel where he was with bad fame and trail of mailicious premeditated wrongdoings. He is a manipulator and a blackmailer who has bulldozed his way into an organization run by public money. His entry should be blocked otherwise once there you can criticise as much as you like. PTV is much too dangerous place in the hands of such characters - remember in history there was a man called - Joseph Goebbls with a title of DOCTOR, to boot!.

Salman wonder full Article by u but I see no harm in anyone joining the job he/she chooses. Whatever salary package and perks are settled is between the two parties.If one can sell himself better again good luck to them.
The issue here is not the salary . More important is that a person who always claimed to be non partisan in his presentations did have a price tag after all. Or was it a matter of quietning of a big gun who could otherwise have been a source of irritation and concern for the government. We all know too well how the so called mandated parties take the critism. Here it is not the skills of Shahid Masood selling himself but that of Zardari who is a superb wheeler dealer, no price is too high for him if and when he decides to buy.
The other thing to remember for those who have known about Shahid before and an information for those have not , he was during his student days a member of the PSF ie Peoples Students Federation. So his appointment can be described as a case of ‘ Jithey di khoti uthey hi ann khaloti ‘

What is with this nation that we tend to jump up on sold-out prices even before the thing has been put up in the market.
Dr. Shahid Masood has had affiliations both with IJT and PSF. He in the end of his student political career was a member of IJT. Which happens to have a hardline stance against the PPP.
Anyhow political pundits can interpret it in different ways. One can be that it is yet another clue for Pervaiz Musharraf to lay off for a person whose programmes he didnot seem wrothy enough to be aired on private channels for they were a source of spreading chaos has got the whole STATE Channel to himself for now.
This appointment also seems quite interesting keeping in view Rehman Malik’s recent threat to Dr. Shahid Masood to lay his hands off Zardari and Dr. sb’s subsequent programmes in which he not only openly mentioned the threat but also thrashed Rehman Malik.
It can also be seen as a career jump for a man who was a practicing doctor and only started doing View on News for a past-time activity rising up to the cadres of managing the biggest network in terms of its coverage.
Also the salary and perks of which I already have replied earlier too I would like to add that let us get over the culture of honourary jobs for honourary jobs are managed in the very same way. So it is good to hear that he is taking salary and he should do so.
About Aftab sb’s I would say seemingly irrationnale comments I dont know what could be the reason of them but they seem too out of place when he overwhelmingly opposses Dr. Shahid’s appointment and is too ken to stop him from taking on his new appointment. I gues he too would have his reasons. But if talking out loud you should also share the reasons my Dear sir. :-/

Well Salman , Dr Shahid Masood is no saint. People who expected high should look into his past.
Before joining ARY and then GEO, Dr sahib used to run a think tank in UAE. There are gossips that Dr Sahib was responsible for mishandling lots of funds.
No doubt Dr Shahid has a lot of readings and intellect under his belt but that doesn’t make him a saint. Before the Lal Masjid incident he was heard reminding the Govt of GOVT’s RIT and after the incident he was writing for “woh kon theen aur kahan gaeen”.
These days, Bhands make the most money. Just look at Jahil Online, with added lipstick and face makeup, this bhand is making a ton of money along with leading people astray.

hello friends.i am a psychology student.i will not say any thing more then this.i started watching tv after 2001 when dr.shahid did programe on gujrat muslim in india.i will say again i think he is in situation do or die.i do not mind that he is alive ok and with his family.today no one can take guarenty what if he does not accept this position what if something hapend to him.he has served a nation for 7 seven.we want to see him happy and alive taking take of his family.

The Establishment Division on Monday issued an ambiguous notification explaining the package and remunerations of the newly-appointed chairman-cum-managing director of the state-owned Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).
The letter of the Establishment Division bearing No 1/64/2008-E-6, dated June 30, 2008, says that besides the fixed remuneration of the new chairman PTV, any other “financial benefits” are negotiable between Dr Shahid Masood and “competent authority” at some later stage.
The Establishment Division letter read: “Dr Shahid Masood, chairman PTV, who also has the additional charge of managing director, has agreed to receive the same remuneration package which was given to former MD PTV Yousuf Baig Mirza (annexure-III).” The contract of Dr Shahid Masood will be for a period of five years which could be terminated by either side on a six-month notice.
The attached document (annexure-III) issued by the Establishment Division on May 25, 2007, said that MD PTV Yousuf Baig Mirza would get Rs 700,000 per month as salary. His house rent would be Rs 150,000 and utility allowances Rs 25,000. The salary would be raised by Rs 50,000 per annum. Free mobile phone, two residence telephones and one fax would be allowed. Business class tickets would be given for the national and international travels. Recreational allowance would be given according to the situation.
The notification issued by the Establishment Division on Monday said Dr Shahid Masood would be paid Rs 50,000 extra to that of the package of the previous MD as he (Dr Shahid) would also hold the office of the PTV chairman.
Information minister Sherry Rehman has also approved the Establishment Division notification.
However, senior PTV officials see the point of “extra financial benefits to be negotiated later” with concern. The officials maintained that it would be totally against the rules of the corporation and illegal to offer somebody any percentage of the income from any programme aired on the PTV.
Dr Shahid Masood was appointed as the PTV chairman through the Establishment Division letter No 1/64/2008-E-6, dated May 31, 2008, and was given the additional charge of the MD through the letter No 1/64/2008-E-6, dated June 21, 2008.

Dr SM is destroying PTV by his erratic and ill-thought out actions. He is behaving like a bachha saqqa,, showering favours and funds to get support. But PTV colleagues thinks he is crazy and really really bad news for the organization. But in fact he is very clever and scheming.
