The prosecution’s star witness says Momin Khawaja acted as a courier in 2003 to deliver money and equipment from Britain to Islamic extremists in Pakistan.

Mohammed Babar told Khawaja’s terror trial that the cash, medical supplies and other material were intended for an al-Qaida lieutenant operating in northern Pakistan.

Babar also testified that Khawaja spoke during the visit of an effort he and one of his brothers were making in Canada to build a remote-controlled model airplane to deliver explosives.

And in later e-mail traffic the Ottawa software designer suggested sending a man he had met in Pakistan on a suicide mission to Israel.

Neither the model plane nor suicide plots ever actually materialized.

The specific charges against Khawaja arise from his alleged participation with men - already convicted in Britain - in a failed plot to bomb a nightclub, shopping centre and electrical and gas facilities.
