David Cameron will round off his trip to turbulent Pakistan by visiting projects designed to help the country’s poor.

The Tory leader is to view development schemes after spending Wednesday holding talks with senior political figures.

Mr Cameron was guest of honour at a lavish banquet thrown by prime minister Yusuf Gillani, despite an earlier attempt on his host’s life.

He has used the visit to urge Pakistan to step up the fight against terrorism, and not “slip back” in its efforts to establish robust democracy despite rising violence.

On Tuesday Mr Cameron also met troops in neighbouring Afghanistan as he bids to establish himself as a prime minister-in-waiting.
