ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari was elected as the next President of Pakistan after securing majority of votes in the presidential elections held here on Saturday.
Asif Ali Zardari is Pakistan’s 11th President since 1956, when the country became a republic, excluding acting presidents.
According to the official results announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari secured 481 votes, Pakistan Muslim League-N candidate Justice (Retd.) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui secured 153 votes while Mushahid Hussain Sayed fielded by PML-Q bagged 44 votes.
According to unofficial result, Asif Ali Zardari received 281 votes from Parliament, 22 from Punjab, 6 from Sindh, 59 from Balochistan and 56 from NWFP.
In the Parliament Zardari secured 281 votes, 111 by Justice (Retd) Saeeduzaman Siddique and 34 by Mushahid Hussain Sayed, out of 436 total votes, of which ten were declared invalid.
Asif Ali Zardari secured 123 in Punjab Assembly, 162 in Sindh Assembly, 107 in NWFP, and 59 in Balochistan Assembly.
His rival Justice (Retd) Saeeduzaman Siddique got 201 votes in Punjab Assembly, none from Sindh, 10 from NWFP and 2 from Balochistan Assembly.
Mushahid Hussain got 36 from Punjab Assembly, none from Sindh, 3 from NWFP and 2 from Balochistan Assembly.
The PML-N candidate Justice (Retd.) Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui outshone in Punjab assembly with 201 votes, followed by Asif Ali Zardari securing 123 votes while Mushahid Hussain Syed could muster support of only 36 members.
Zardari bagged 100 percent votes from his native Province’s Sindh Assembly; he bagged 162 votes out of 163 cast in the house of 166 with one vote declared invalid. The result was announced by Presiding Officer, Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali immediately after the counting was over. In the house of 166, not a single vote was cast in favor of any of the other two presidential candidates Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Justice (Retd.) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui.
Asif Zardari emerged victorious in the Balochistan Assembly by securing 59 out of the 63 votes polled for the presidential election. The other candidates for the post, Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui of PML-N and Mushahid Hussain Sayed of PML-Q got 2 votes each.
The result was announced by the Presiding Officer, Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court Justice Amanullah Yasinzai after counting of votes. Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind and Tariq Hussain Masoori abstained.
In the NWFP Assembly, Asif Zardari secured record 107 votes out of a total of 124 votes polled. Justice (Retd.) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui of PML-N grabbed 10 votes while Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed of PML-Q obtained only three votes. While four votes were declared invalid as it were wrongly marked. Presiding Officer Tariq Pervez, Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court declared the unofficial results after counting of the votes.
Earlier, The voting process was held through a secret ballot by the two chambers of the national parliament, the National Assembly and Senate and the four provincial assemblies.
Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (Retd.) Qazi Muhammad Farooq conducted the proceedings as Returning Officer for election to the Office of the President. At the Parliament House, members from both the Houses, Senate and National Assembly, cast their votes to elect the President, being the Electoral College for Presidential election.
The contest was between Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Justice (Retd.) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Mushahid Hussain Sayed of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q).
Security has been beefed up across Pakistan and additional contingents of security forces were deployed in major cities.

The first act he performed after being elected as president was to sacrifice black ‘bakras’ (goats). Is it not a signal that he would sacrifice any thing for his self-aggrandizement, even the Paky human bakras.

They all taking their time,at the mean time the whole country is going down the drain. More likey this govt. will waist their 4 years ,if they can servive unless they overcome the disasters,Pakistan is facing today by lip Service. Lies, Lies and Lies. May ALLAH have mercy on Pakistan AMEEN.

Mr. Z has been elected President of Pak. through apparently secret ballott but the act of some MPAs of NWFP i/c C.M. is very objectionable and against Constitution and make the whole process of Election as fishy. The showing of Ballott after ticking it shows that Khota Trading (as per PMQ, Shaujaat) has been done Khullam Khulla thus making the whole process sour though there was no need to do this by PPP as Mr. Z was sure to be elected by margin but I think old habits die hard at least in Pakistan politics or an element of confidence seems to be missing for Win. However, Mr.Z . deserve congratulations under the lofty Expectations of the public. He has got many problems like so called Terrorism so called because it is self created to serve the purpose of US, High prices,Inflation, Strengthening of Economy,Restoration of Judiciary, Law and Order and Good Governance. The public is still wondering that after return of PM of Pak. from US the campaign against Terrorism has strengthened first time by using Gunship helicopters and Jets and toll of death has risen to 30-40 daily as against Mush. Regime when it was 10-15 max. Pak Army should also play its part and try to diffuse the situation along with the Presedent Mr. Zardari. Let us wait and see the situation in coming months to judge the performance of Mr. Big Z.

the PPP that gave Pakistan the nukes was that of Zulfiqar Bhutto, whose son and daughter have been murdered by Asif Ali Zardari…
1. its simple, rehman malik failed as a security chief for benazir and now he got promoted to secretary internal affairs and enjoys more powers than the PM, instead of being punished for security failure
2. the promises of conducting a UN probe into BBz murder immediately after coming into power have been forgotton
3. the agenda that benazir wanted to follow i.e. restoring the judges as she called justice chaudhry her CJ before her death, has been thrown down the drain after hijacking the party from the deserving original Bhuttos.
and still ppl believe that he’s sincere to the Party just by raising a slogan of Bhutto..its terrible.let me tel u, i’m sure he sooooo wanted to change his name to be ”ASIF ALI BHUTTO ZARDARI”, if it meant taking over the party..but he wz lucky enuf..just changing his children’s name did the job..

میرے خیال میں اگر پاکستان کی صحیح صورتحال کا ادارک کیا جائے تو مارشل لاء نے ملک کی جڑیں کھوکھلی کر رکھی ہیں وہاں لمبے بوٹوں والوں سے سبھی ڈرتے ہیں اور ملک کے لئے جانیں قربان کرنے والوں کو ہم فراموش کر دیا شھید ذوالفقار علی بھٹو سے لے کر محترمہ بینظیر بھٹو تک سارا خاندان پاکستان کے لئے قربان کر دیا اور آج ہم اگر ان کے بارے میں کوئی غلط بات کرتے ہیں تو ملک کے غدار ہیں اور غداروں پر قوم کی لعنت ہوتی ہیں
