* US president says every nation has an obligation to ensure its territory does not become haven for terror
WASHINGTON: Pakistan has the responsibility to battle terrorists and must ensure its Tribal Areas do not become sanctuaries for them, United States President George W Bush said on Tuesday.
“Defeating these terrorists and extremists is in Pakistan’s interest, they pose a mortal threat to Pakistan’s future as a free and democratic nation,” Bush said during an address at the National Defence University.
“Defeating these terrorists and extremists is also Pakistan’s responsibility because every nation has an obligation to govern its territory and make certain that it does not become a safe haven for terror.”
The US, he underscored, “must also help the government of Pakistan defeat Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters hiding in the remote border regions of their country” as they pose threat to democracy in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In the past year, the Taliban, Al Qaeda and other extremist groups hiding in these regions had stepped up their attacks against the Pakistani government to stop the democratic progress in the country, he said.
Bush said extremists in Iraq, Afghanistan and the remote areas of Pakistan pose a new challenge for the US. “They are all theaters in the overall struggle, in all three places extremists are using violence and terror in an attempt to impose their ideology on whole populations, they murder to impose their dark vision of the world.”

Bush is 100% right. Paky society and government are unable to check this menace due to their hypocritic culture. They cannot use Islam as a political stunt hypocritically and then fight Taliban’s extremism. How can they destroy the nurseries of terrorists to which they and there ilk supply ample water, both with money and religious propaganda. As history shows South Asia has always been helped by invaders from outside. We Punjabies were liberated from Sikha-Shaahi by the British and this Taliban menace is no less than Sikha-Shaahi with modern appendages.
