WITH each passing day we are witnessing actions by the United States which reflect the hostile designs of the sole superpower hurting the interests of Pakistan. Continued violation of our airspace, criticism over lack of action to eliminate militants in FATA, expression of doubt over the security of our nuclear assets by the American administration and Presidential candidates and their running mates’ negative aspersions speak volumes for an inimical mindset in Washington against Pakistan.
Totally ignoring the contributions being made by Pakistan as a front-line State in the war on terror, the American Administration seems bent upon taking measures to further intimidate and weaken the country. Despite strong resentment expressed by Islamabad over the violation of its airspace, US drones are in the air over FATA and firing missiles almost daily. In the latest incident on Friday, over twenty people were killed near Miranshah in two attacks by US pilotless plane and jetfighters. These attacks are affecting the credibility of the Government and assertions by our leadership that any tresspassing would be retaliated with full force. The approval of civilian nuclear cooperation deal with India and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit to New Delhi to sign it and rejection of any possibility of a similar agreement with Pakistan is a proof of discrimination towards Pakistan and a tilt in the US policy. The fact that the approval of the nuclear deal was celebrated by the Bush administration with fanfare and consider it as a step in building strategic partnership with India should leave no doubt as to what direction the American policy is shifting. Due to lack of space in these columns, it is difficult to go into details of the reasons for discriminatory policy towards Pakistan but one can say this without an iota of doubt that the leadership and the policy makers in the United States have succumbed to the pressure of pro-Indian and pro-Israeli lobbies. Though these are not encouraging developments from Pakistan’s point of view yet we should not be demoralized and have faith in our inherent strength. It is time that our leadership must seriously ponder over the emerging scenario, options available and adopt a course of action through diplomatic and political means to protect the interests of Pakistan.

The Govt. has now called a joint session of the Parliament and a briefing by the concerned officials has been given to it . A detailed discussion will have to take place on Monday after which a consensus proposal is required to be formulated by Parliamentarians to cope with the situation arising out of the indiscriminate bombing by US drones on our innocent people and Khudkush Bombing. The circumstances are very much alarming and need personal consideration of the Politicians. In case they failed to formulate any workable but beneficial solution in the interest of Pakistan ,the Nation will never forgive them for their act of negligence to defend the Home Land. There is urgent need to speak truth to the public and clearly come out of the Mastermind and Financier of these Khudkush bombings. Unless we will differentiate between friends and foes, we will not be successful in eradicating this menace.Politicians should be clear and definite about the problem and try to evolve the practicable solution of the situations.
