Nov 24 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world.
Cricket - Former Pakistan captain and coach Javed Miandad is hopeful next year’s Pakistan-India series will take place, despite teams shunning his country because of security fears.
“India has always supported us and they will be behind us,” Miandad, the new director-general of Pakistan’s board, told the Dubai-based Gulf News.
“Yes, when the junior hockey team’s tour to Pakistan was cancelled, we were a bit worried. But I am hopeful. There is time. Matters can be sorted out.”
Rugby - Sale number eight Sebastien Chabal said he will leave the English club to return to France and play in the local Top 14 next season.
“I know that I want to go home, that I am going to go home. It will be a big salary off my club’s accounts,” Chabal, who has been with Sale for four seasons, told French sports daily L’Equipe.
Soccer - Africa Sports have retained their Ivorian championship after beating Reveil Daloa 3-1 to finish a point ahead of arch rivals ASEC Abidjan.
Both teams qualify for next year’s African Champions League, where ASEC have reached the last eight a record nine times in the last 12 years. Africa Sports have now won 16 league titles to ASEC’s 22.
