Karachi, 29 April 2009, ACCA Pakistan organised Pre-Budget Seminar at a local hotel today. The budget seminar was presided by the honorable chief guest Mr. Muhammad Faiyaz Khan, Director General Large Tax Payer’s Unit (LTU) and attended by representatives from FBR, ACCA Members, Trainees and the media. The event commenced with opening remarks by Dr Afra Sajjad who welcomed the audience and said that ACCA Pakistan has submitted budget proposals 2009-10 to the FBR under the theme “Supporting Fair Taxation,” ACCA Pakistan’s recommendations aim at enabling equitable economic growth of Pakistan through supporting enterprise, environment conservation, social equality, encouraging saving and investment. Dr Afra added that budget seminars are organised to provide an opportunity to ACCA Members and the business community to give their suggestions about the Federal Budget to the FBR. The first speaker for the seminar, Mr Komail Abbas Badami, ACCA Member and Partner, Badami Law Associates gave presentation on Direct Taxes, centered around the taxation initiatives aiming at stimulating enterprise growth, encouraging investment and enhancing social security while the discussion on indirect taxes was lead by Mr Tahir Sartaj, ACCA Member and Tax Executive, A.F.Ferguson & Co focusing on the issues of sales tax refunds, the concept of green taxes to promote environment conservation, and empowerment of Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee (ADRC). Mr Qamar Usman, Chairman Taxation Sub-Committee Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry shed light on the viewpoints of the business community about the forthcoming budget.The evening concluded with remarks by the honorable Chief Guest who expressed profound appreciation for ACCA Pakistan’s initiatives to lead the consultative process on national budget and ACCA’s endeavors to bring the perspectives of business sector, government, policy-makers and professionals to convergence in the Budget 2009-10.
